Silver State Spotlight-Northern Nevada

Buddy Gouldsmith
Nevada Scouting Director

“The Silver State Spotlight” is a feature carried by PBR Nevada highlighting unsigned seniors. Periodically throughout the year, a player will be recognized that might have previously flown under the radar. These players possess the ability to play at the next level and will be good additions to college baseball programs.

Notes

Lanky, 5-foot-11, 135 pound frame. Barry is a projectable left handed pitcher with an extremely lean frame.  He has tons of room to add weight and strength.  He pitched exclusively from the stretch and a set point out away from his body.  He has a deliberate leg lift also out away from his body with loose, easy 3/4 arm action. FB was clocked 80-84, pitching comfortably 82-83. He maintains natural arm side run and occasional sink. Barry showed good feel for his fastball to his glove side, pitching in to right-handed hitters with confidence. He featured a slurvy breaking ball with the makings of a future slider and out pitch. He showed feel for a changeup in limited looks.  Barry was athletic off the mound fielding his position well on swinging bunts as well as comebackers. Presently, Barry will be a good find for a four year institution willing to play the long game or potential impact player for a two year college.  A definite follow, he is poised for a jump in the spring.
