St. Louis Preseason Prospect Showcase Analysis : Position Players (Part 2)



At long last, we bring you the last of the Position Player analysis from the St. Louis Preseason Preseason Prospect ID Showcase (in alphabetical order)

Anthony Arman, OF, DeSmet, Class of 2013:

With his projectable 6-foot-2, 185-pound frame In the outfield, Arman was quick to the ball with a smooth glove to hand transfer, delivering accurate 67-70 mph throws.  At the plate, Arman uses his strong lower half to create good bat speed with s short, quick level swing and extension through contact.

Trey Baur, 3B, MICDS, Class of 2014:
Baur is an impressive and projectable 6-foot-4, 205-pound shortstop who showed good lateral movement with range up the middle and sure, confident hands.  Baur was clocked at 78 mph from across the diamond with accurate throws.  Offensively, Baur has a balanced setup with a smooth load.  He has a good approach at the plate and takes an economical approach to the baseball.  He showed glimpses of power, and as he continues to progress has the ability to be a top level hitter.

Bryce Bell, MIF, Westminster, Class of 2013:Bell is a 5-foot-8, 135-pound middle infielder who showed well at the plate. The left handed hitter demonstrated a fundamentally sound swing; he hits from an open setup as he remains excellent balance throughout.  Bell exhibited fast hands through zone as he sprayed line drives to all fields.  Defensively, Bell showcased athletic feet, solid hands, and a quick transfer; he was clocked at 77 mph from across the diamond. 

Jordan Bodenbach, 2B/3B, Alton HS (IL), Class of 2012:The 6-foot, 175-pound Bodenbach displays fluid footwork and soft, quick hands. Across the diamond he reaches a top velocity of 77 mph using short arm action through a high ¾ arm slot. At the plate, the right-handed hitter uses a wide setup with quick bat speed, consistently attacking the top half of the ball with hard line drives and ground balls. 

Brendan Carney, MIF, Chaminade, Class of 2013:Carney is a 5-foot-11, 150-pound middle infielder who performed well in all aspects of the game.  Carney proved to be a solid middle infielder with a strong, accurate arm (84 mph).  He moved well laterally and exhibited good hands.  At the plate, Carney showed a balanced approach.  He showed good bat speed and created whip through the zone, with a level, line drive swing.

Jacob Daily, OF/INF, Mattoon HS (IL), Class of 2012:Daily is an athletic 5-foot-11, 170-pound outfielder who impressed defensively with his arm and athletic ability.  Daily moved well in the outfield, taking good routes to the baseball with clean, quick footwork.  He showed an accurate arm with carry (79 mph). At the plate, Daily has a balanced stance with a level swing. 

Dwayne Dunn, 1B, Riverview HS, Class of 2013:Dunn is a strong 5-foot-11, 195-pound first baseman who showed well at the plate, exhibiting some power in his swing.  Dunn used a strong lower half to create good torque and a powerful swing. Defensively, Dunn showed solid footwork around the bag; he was clocked at 68 mph across the infield. 

Matthew Halliday, MIF, Alton HS (IL), Class of 2013:Halliday is a 5-foot-9, 165-pound middle infielder who impressed with his smooth fielding, soft hands and all-around defensive actions. Halliday was one of the best middle-infielders at the event with his quick footwork and ability to play through the baseball, showing excellent lateral range and the ability to play the baseball on the run.  He displayed accurate throws across the diamond and was clocked at 78 mph.  Offensively, Halliday has a slightly closed setup with a smooth load and short, compact swing.  He showed good extension through his swings and created some whip through the zone with pull side power.

Alan Hall, OF/1B, Ft. Zumwalt West, Class of 2013:The 5-foot-8, 170-pound strong-bodied athlete showcased a strong and accurate arm (74-77 mph) from the outfield. Hall took an aggressive approach as he played through the ball and moved well in the outfield. At the plate, the left handed hitting Hall exhibited quick wrists and bat speed. He showcased an explosive lower half while his barrel whipped through the zone.

Noble Hampton, OF/INF, Hazelwood central HS, Class of 2013:
Hampton is a projectable 6-foot-2, 180-pound player who impressed with his ability in the outfield and infield.  In the outfield Hampton was quick to the ball and showed the ability to play through the baseball and get on top of his throws.  Hampton took good routes and exhibited clean footwork; he was clocked at 79 mph with accuracy.  In the infield, he showed athletic footwork and soft hands, with 76-79 mph throws across the diamond. At the plate, Hampton has a balanced setup and a level, line-drive swing.  He showed some barrel whip through the zone as he laced line drives. As he continues to mature physically, Hampton has the tools to be an impact player at the next level.

Kevin Henke, INF, Francis Howell North HS, Class of 2012:Henke is a athletic 5-foot-11, 175-pound 2B who showed confidence and fundamental fielding mechanics, delivering accurate throws across the field.  Offensively, Henke has a balanced stance and showed level extension through contact, spraying line drives gap to gap.

Drew Kitson, MIF, Wentzville Holt HS, Class of 2013:
With an athletic 5-foot-11, 175-pound frame, Kitson showed to be one of the top fielders of the event.  Kitson showed a good approach to the ball, sure hands, fundamental footwork and range, with consistently accurate throws across the diamond (76-80 mph). At the plate, Kitson has an open stance with a smooth load and short stride, showing the ability to consistently put the ball into play to all fields.

BJ Klar, MICDS, Class of 2013:
Klar displayed soft hands, an accurate arm, and good range in the infield. He fielded the ball out front and in an athletic position. At the plate, Klar has a high leg kick and good weight transfer. His path to the ball was short, and he consistently found the barrel hitting the ball to all fields.

Charlie Kretchmer, C, SLUH, Class of 2013:
The 5-foot-8, 180-pound left handed hitting Kretchmer has a solid, athletic frame. Behind the plate, he shows quick feet and little wasted movement, with solid receiving skills. His pop time registered between 1.97-1.99 and reached a top velocity of 78 mph, with all throws right on the bag. Ketchmer showed fundamental blocking ability. At the plate, the left handed hitter displays a balanced set up with a quick, easy load. He is short to the ball with quick hands. Using a slight uphill bat path and barrel whip, he produces a consistent line drive swing with back spin carry.

Sean Masiakiewicz, C/INF, Homeschool, Class of 2014:
As a catcher, Masiakiewicz showed good receiving skills with a stiff wrist and fundamental blocking abilities. His top pop time was a 2.02, with all throws right on the bag (73-76 mph).  At the plate, Masiakiewicz has a quite set up with a smooth load, quick hands, and a level line drive producing swing.

Colton Meador, 3B, Mt. Vernon Township HS (IL), Class of 2013:
The athletic 6-foot-2, 205-pound third baseman is an impressive athlete who showed well in all facets of the game. Defensively, he displayed advanced actions and hands in the field. Meador moves with fluidity while fielding the ball with soft hands out front. His throws across the diamond were 74-77mph. At the plate, he displayed balance and rhythm throughout his swing. Meador showed the ability to make consistent contact, with some glimpses of power

Ronnie Miles, OF/3B, Riverview HS, Class of 2012:
Miles is an athletic 5-foot-10, 170-pound outfielder who showed well defensively, playing through the baseball and taking aggressive routes to the ball.  Miles was clocked at 78 mph from the outfield.  At the plate, Miles stays tall in the box with a balanced setup and show the ability to make consistent contact. As Miles polishes his mechanics in the field and at the plate, he has the athleticism to be consistent in all facets of the game.

Matt Monolo, C, Pattonville HS, Class of 2012:
The 5-foot-9, 145-pound Monolo had a best pop time of 2.47 and was clocked at 74 mph from the crouch. With some improved footwork, Monolo has the arm strength to decrease his pop time. He showed fundamental blocking ability and a stiff wrist when receiving. Offensively, he consistently found barrel as he made consistent contact.

Lawrence Moore, OF, Alton HS (IL), Class of 2012:
Moore is an athletic 5-foot-8, 168-pound outfielder who showed quick feet to the ball in the outfield, and throws with carry (72 mph).  At the plate, Moore has quick hands through the zone with some bat speed, showing some pull side power.

Drew Pearson, C, Cabool HS, Class of 2013:
Pearson is a strong-bodied 6-foot-2, 200-pound catcher who features a solid frame and quick feet. Pearson’s pop times registered 2.08 to 2.10 with a strong, accurate arm from behind the dish (74-78 mph).  Offensively, Pearson has a balanced stance and an aggressive approach. With his fast bat speed and strong lower half, Pearson showed some pull-side power with backspin carry.

Jake Perry, C, Webster Groves HS, Class of 2013:
Behind the plate, the 6-foot-1, 208-pounder showed good with in his blocking form and received the ball well with a strong wrist.  He recorded 2.00-2.12 pop times and delivered strong and accurate 76-80 mph throws to second base. With a quicker transfer, Perry should see consistent sub 2.0 pop times. At the plate, the right-handed hitter took an aggressive approach to the ball and used his strong hands to create good barrel whip, which generated backspin carry to all fields.

Jack Rouse, SS/OF, MICDS, Class of 2014:
Rouse is a 5-foot-11, 166-pound middle infielder who showed quick, concise footwork and exhibited a clean transfer.  He had consistently accurate throws across the diamond (73-75 mph). Offensivly, Rouse showed the ability to consistently keeps his hands inside the ball with a short, quick swing, and hit the ball to all fields.

Pete Spradlin, OF, Vianney, Class of 2012:
One of the best overall athletes of the event, the solidly build 6-foot, 195-pound Spradlin exhibited a strong arm (81 mph) that had carry and was on target. He moves with fluidity and purpose to the ball, and his natural instincts and hands further separated him from the pack.  Spradlin has a powerful swing with above average bat speed and demonstrated good balance and barrel whip through the zone as he sprayed line drives to all fields, with backspin carry.

Tim Weir, 3B/OF, Barat Academy, Class of 2013:
Weir is a lanky 6-foot-2, 180-pound third baseman who showed athleticism at his position.  Weir showed soft hands and had an accurate arm (70-76 mph). Offensively, Weir has short stride and quick path to the ball, showing the ability to hit the ball to the opposite field.
