By: Diego Solares

On Tuesday, June 21st, the PBR Missouri staff will travel to Maryville University in St. Louis, Missouri, to host the St. Louis Top Prospect Games: Upperclass event. This invite-only event features noteworthy uncommitted 2023 and 2024 prospects from the state, and it’s been a staple on our summer calendar since 2017.

ROSTER PREVIEW

This year’s roster, just like in the past, is certainly shaping up nicely and we’ll highlight a few names-to-know below:

+ OF Brady Picarelli (Eureka, 2024) is one of the top prospects in the state’s incoming junior class and lands just inside the top-500 nationally, too. He owns an upside 6-foot-2, 185-pound frame with a potent left-handed bat that impressed at the Gamers Scout Day this winter.

+ Two more name-to-know 2024 grads on this roster: LHP Brady Kehlenbrink (Parkway South, 2024) and INF Mason Beno (Parkway West, 2024). The 6-foot-1, 195-pound Kehlenbrink was up to 87 mph at an event this winter, pitching at 85-87 mph with a sweeping breaking ball and a mid-70s changeup thrown at arm speed. Beno repeats a clean left-handed stroke with ease and upside at the plate, including a sure-handed glove that’ll stick on the infield long-term.

+ C Xander Schmitt (Lafayette, 2024) was another winner from this winter, standing out amongst a talented crop of prospects at the Missouri Preseason All-State in February. Built at a wiry 5-foot-11, 173-pounds, Schmitt is a 6.78 runner in the 60-yard dash with wiry strength, both at the plate and behind the dish. He reached a 92.9 mph max exit velocity in BP and also recorded a 79 mph max defensively, too.

+ C/INF Brodie Short (Lutheran St. Charles, 2024) and C Logan Winkleman (Christian Brothers College, 2024) are two physical backstops headed to Maryville on Tuesday. Short stands at a physically built 6-foot, 202-pounds and wields a loud left-handed bat, while Winkleman took arguably the loudest round of BP at the GBA Scout Day a few weeks ago, standing at a sturdy 5-foot-11, 180-pounds.

+ Both RHP Connor McCaleb (Timberland, 2023) and C/INF Carson McCaleb (Timberland, 2023) are two uncommitted incoming senior follows on this roster. The former stands at a more physically built 6-foot-1, 190-pounds and was up to 89 mph at the Rawlings Tigers Scout Day this winter, while the former is a more compact, sturdy switch-hitter with hand speed and bat strength.

+ C/OF Kody Brown (Seckman, 2024), INF Grant Fallert (Valle Catholic, 2024), and RHP Cade Luetkemeyer (Rock Bridge, 2024) are three more incoming juniors to note on this roster. Brown is an athletic backstop with aggressive bat speed and juice to the pull-side. Fallert ran a 6.94 in the 60-yard dash this fall, swinging a loose right-handed bat with athletic actions on the infield. Luetkemeyer stands at a strong 5-foot-11, 175-pounds and was up to 87 mph at the Warriors Scout Day in February.
