GRAND CHUTE, Wis.—St. Mary Catholic kept their undefeated season and title hopes alive with a 6-5 win over Unity in the Division 3 state semifinals on Wednesday.

The Zephyrs rallied to overcome a four run deficit and clinch their place in the state championship game.

Things looked good early for the Zephyrs after a wild pitch allowed outfielder Tyler Nelson to score in the bottom of the first. The second and third innings were dominated by the Eagles, however.

In the second, Unity scored two runs on an RBI single by Cody Ince and a wild pitch with a runner on third base. That gave them the lead, which they extended further in the third inning.

The Eagles scored three more runs in the frame, all thanks to Wyatt Stenberg. The outfielder came to the plate with the bases loaded and ripped a 3 RBI double to give Unity a 5-1 lead.

The Zephyrs showed great resiliency immediately after, and score four runs in the bottom of the inning to tie the game. Nelson scored on a throwing error before Caleb Davidson drove in two with an RBI single and Mack Blashka tied it with his own RBI hit.

An RBI single by Christian Jack in the fourth inning was all that it took after that for the Zephyrs to finish off the rally and take the lead for good.

Caleb Davidson pitched all seven innings for St. Mary Catholic. He gave up five runs, only two of which were earned, and struck out three. He also finished with two hits at the plate.

Nate Heimstead was the losing pitcher. He pitched four innings and gave up four earned runs on six hits and two walks. He and Brett Nelson both had two hits apiece for the Unity offense.

St. Mary Catholic will try to complete and undefeated season when they face Prairie du Chien in the Division 3 state championship game. The Blackhawks defeated the only other remaining undefeated team (Markesan) in their semifinal.
