State Semi-finals Game Recaps



Class A:

Montgomery 5,  Lake County Christian 0
Garrett Shnyder pitched a gem for Montgomery striking out nine while allowing just two hits. He did not allow a hit until two were out in the 6th inning. Montgomery (21-2) advances to play Bishop McCort in the state finals on Friday.

Bishop McCort 16,  Elk County Catholic 0 (6 innings)
Bishop McCort got solid pitching from senior Jesse Cooper and banged out 18 hits as a team to advance to the school’s first PIAA baseball championship game.

Class AA:

Riverside 6,  North Star 2
Riverside (21-6) returns to the PIAA AA finals with a chance to win back to back state championships. Rob Hardy picked up the win on the mound going five innings, giving up two runs. Hardy also had a single, double and triple with four RBI to lead the offense. North Star (16-4) finishes its season one step from the state championship.

Brandywine Heights 8,  Pine Grove 7 (10 innings)
It took 10 innings, but Pine Grove (23-6) is headed to State College thanks to senior Brandon Scheibley's two-out, RBI double to deep left in the bottom of the 10th inning with two outs.Of Pine Grove's eight runs in the game, seven came with two out. PG will look to beat Riverside in the state championship game friday.

Class AAA:

West York 8,  No. 1 Blackhawk 1
Blackhawk had been riding the left arm of Brandon McKay during the playoffs.  McKay moved to first base for the state semi-finals and West York made the No. 1 team in the state pay. Scoring early and often, West York continued its stellar team hitting and will now play for the state championship on Friday.

Lampeter-Strasburg 2,  Neumann-Goretti 1
Peter Darrenkamp fired a two-hitter and Dan Neff knocked in both runs, including the game winner in the seventh inning, as the Pioneers (23-6) defeated Neumann-Goretti, 2-1, in state semifinal action on Monday at Spring-Ford High School.

Class AAAA:

No. 14 Council Rock South 4, Altoona 0
Using a three-run first inning, Council Rock (23-2) shut down the Altoona offense and moved on to Friday's state championship in State College. Altoona (17-6) lost in the school's first ever trip to the state semi-finals.

No. 15 LaSalle College 7, No. 16 Hatboro-Horsham 5
The Explorers of LaSalle College used a four-run fourth inning to erase and early 5-2 deficit in downing Hatboro-Horsham (22-5) in the AAAA state semi-finals. LaSalle College (23-3) will advance to play No. 14 Council Rock South for the state championship on Friday.
