State Tournament Review: Second Round

Day two of the State Tournament was exciting with competitive games in all classifications. Several games took extra innings to decide, some pitchers had big days helping lead their teams to upset wins. Here is the review of a quick view on some of the most intriguing games.
7A
Conway had to wait a little less than a year for their shot at revenge against the Bentonville Tigers, who defeated them in the 2015 7A State Title. They didn’t take it for granted knocking off the state champs 8-6 in comeback fashion. Conway trailed 5-2 after 5 complete in the six they scored 3 runs on two HBP, 2 hits and 1 error to tie the game 5-5. Bentonville scored a run in the bottom of the six to regain the lead 6-5 on when 2017 MIF Justin Hines scored on a passed ball. Conway answers in the 7th scoring 3 on three hits a HBP and an error. Hits in the inning by 2017 OF McCall Dail and 2018 OF Parker Gavazzi. Conway holds in the bottom half of the inning and advances to play conference rival Catholic High School today at 2:30.
6A
Greenwood received a big day from 2016 RHP Blaise Lomon. He who pitched a complete game, scattering 7 hits to only allowing 4 runs and striking out 7. Loman wasn’t just good on the mound he had a big day at the plate getting 3 hits and an RBI. The rest of his teammates racked up seven hits scoring 8 runs to put away Benton. Benton was led offensively by 2016 OF Colten Nix who went 2 for 3 with a home run and 3 RBIs, This game represents a changing of the guard as Benton and this group of seniors has dominated the 6A in recent memory being a contender for the state title year in and year out. Second year head coach Trey Hollaway looks to have his young group playing well at the right time. They advance to play Jonesboro today at 2:30 PM.
