State Tournament Semi-Finals

Here is a look at the State Semi-Final games that happened yesterday, in the 6A, 5A, and 3A classifications. 4A and 2A were postponed until Monday due to weather.

6A

2015 RHP Drew Harris’ two hitter propelled the Benton Panther’s to a 6-0 victory over Russellville HS to advance to the state finals Saturday, May 23rd, 3:00 PM at Baum Stadium. The Panthers now have a record of 24-5.

Sheridan HS beat Jonesboro HS 13-1. 2015 RHP Tyler Allen, retired the first nine hitters he faced. This gave the hitters all the confidence they needed as they banged out 13 runs on 15 hits. Allen’s final line was 7 innings pitched, 1 run, 3 hits, 3 strike-outs. Sheridan advances to play Benton HS. Their record is now 23-8 on the season.

5A

Harrison HS beat Magnolia HS 11-1 to advance to the 5A State Finals. Harrison now has a record of 21-6 and will attempt to win their second state title, with their first state title coming in 2008.

White Hall HS beat Sylvan Hills HS 10-4 to continue their defense of the 2014 State Championship.  The Bears got out to an early lead scoring 3 runs. In the 4th White Hall answered with 4 runs, 2015 OF Kirk Baugh and 2016 OF Caleb Carr doubled in runs. Baugh wasn’t done their as he homered in the 5th to highlight the 5 run inning.

3A

Mayflower continues their dominate run in the 3A state tournament defeating Benton Harmony Grove HS 15-2. The Eagles received a big day from Tyler Herrin, Herrin went 2-5 with a homerun, 4 RBIs and 2 runs scored. 2018 Brady Wilcox picked up the victory for the Eagles throwing 7 innings allowing 2 runs while scattering 8 hits and striking out 5. Mayflower will play Saturday, May 23rd at 10:00 AM.

Fordyce HS will join Mayflower HS as they punched their ticket by beating Horatio HS 4-2. This will be the Red-Bugs 3rd consecutive trip to the finals. 2016 Ross Rodgers was the key for Fordyce, he threw 7 innings allowing 2 runs on 4 hits and struck out 11. Slowing down a Horatio offense that had scored double digit runs in its last 9 games.
