State Tournament Update: 5A

State Tournaments began Thursday at 7 different location in three corners of the state. Here are the highlights from Day 1of the 5A State Tournament scores from the others.

Jacksonville HS beats Nettleton HS 7-1. The Red-Devils received a strong performance from 2015 RHP Dereck St. Clair, who pitched a complete game, only surrendering one run in the top of the 7^th. The game was tightly contested until the 5^th when 2015 MIF Ryan Mallison hit an opposite field 3 run home run.

Harrison HS beat Lakeside HS 7-3. 2015 LHP Drew Fitzgerald pitched 5.3 innings for the Goblins. Brock Humphrey went 1-3 with 4 RBIs offensively. Harrison will advance to play Jacksonville today at 12:00 PM.

White Hall HS defeated Vilonia HS 4-1, beginning their defense of the 2014 5A State Title. The Bulldogs received a good outing from 2015 RHP Daniel Sprinkle, with 5 strike out and 1 earned run. Sprinkle pounded the strike zone with his heavy fastball 88-92 MPH.

Valley View HS beat Beebe HS 1-0 in 9 innings. Both pitchers threw 8 innings and were relieved due to AAA pitching regulations. Valley View will play White Hall HS today at 12:00.

Greene County Tech rallied to score 3 in the 7^th to beat Pulaski Academy 4-3 in walk off fashion. GCT received a good outing from 2016 Ty Gordon, who maintained his composure after giving up unearned runs. His effort kept them in striking distance until the 7^th when to PA errors opened the door to a bases clearing double to win.

Magnolia HS wins a high scoring affair to defeat Little Rock Christian Academy 9-6. Magnolia scored 4 in the top of the 7^th to put the game away. They received a gritty effort from 2015 RHP Zach Harrington on the mound. The Panthers will play Greene County Tech today at 2:30 PM.

Watson Chapel HS defeated Greenbrier HS 3-2 in the bottom of the 7^th. Big defensive plays kept the wildcats close enough to win the game late. WCHS cut down two Greenbrier runners at the plate and turned 2 double plays to negate big innings.

Sylvan Hills HS beat Batesville HS 6-3 in the final came of the day.2016 MIF Mackanzie Seats hit a home run to swing some momentum when the bears where down 2-0. Once momentum change Sylvan Hills cruised to victory behind their senior led pitching staff. 2015 RHP Hunter Heslep and 2015 LHP Marcus Long combined to pick up the victory. Sylvan Hills HS will play Watson Chapel HS today at 2:30.
