Stock Report: 2014 1B Zach Novoselsky

Steve Nielsen
Scouting Director - Illinois

Although Zach Novoselsky (Stevenson HS, 2014) might be one of the best linemen in the state of Illinois and recruited by most of the Big Ten, he’s not too shabby on the baseball field as well. At a massive 6-foot-6, 270-pounds, Novoselsky is known for laying the wood to his opponents in the trenches, and he also uses that same demeanor with a bat in his hands.

The son of former NFL tight end Brent Novoselsky, Zach obviously has athletic bloodlines.

At the plate, Novoselsky has some serious pop from the right side of the plate. A threatening presence in the box, he shows serious bat speed while under control and staying inside the baseball. One of Novoselsky's more impressive traits is his ability to drive the ball to the opposite field with power. He is not one of your prototypical pull power hitters; he shows the ability to let the ball on the outer half travel and drive it to the right center gap.

Novoselsky’s lineman skills also translate well around the bag, showing nimble footwork that carries his frame well.

Whether Novoselsky decides to don the pads or wield the stick, he is literally a can’t-miss prospect.
