Prep Baseball Louisiana: 2025 Class State Rankings Update (May 2024)

Alex Armand
Louisiana Scouting Director

The 2024 high school baseball spring season has come to an end in the state of Louisiana, which means it's time for the summer circuit to kick-off, and it also means it's time for an update to our state rankings.  This spring, our staff was able to get out and see more teams and players than ever before, as we saw close to 100 games this past spring.  Today, we start a three-week stretch of state rankings updates, and we begin with the 2025 class.  We've expanded the list to 275 prospects and although there wasn't a lot of movement at the top, there were still plenty of risers throughout the entire group.  Below, we give a snapshot of the Top 10 and dive into the Top 5.  Be sure to follow us, across all of our social media platforms, as we continue to provide more content and coverage on our state rankings update.

TOP 5 (DEEP DIVE)

+ 2025 OF William Patrick (St. Frederick HS)

The St. Frederick product announced his presence at last summer's Future Games and has continued an upward trajectory ever since leaving the Lakepoint Sports Complex.  Patrick finished his junior campaign hitting at a .450 clip and drew an eye-popping 44 BB's.  We headed up to Monroe, LA earlier this spring to see the LSU recruit and he picked up right where he left off last summer by belting a no-doubt homerun in his first at-bat.  Outside of the homerun, his at-bats were solid, as he only chased one time out of the zone.  Patrick passes the "eye test" with his 6'2" 195 lbs. frame that still holds some projection.  When you combine that with his offensive profile, ability to stick in centerfield, plus speed (6.42 laser-timed 60), and plus arm (92 mph from the OF); you've got a potential 5-tool prospect.  This will be a big summer for him, as there will likely be quite a few eyes on him, ahead of the start of his senior year.

+ 2025 SS Jack Ruckert (Catholic BR HS)

Ruckert had arguably the best spring season of any of the 2025 prospects in our state, and for his performance, he jumps up a couple of spots to #2 in this update.  The Catholic BR product and LSU recruit started off the year hot and never cooled down, on route to helping the Bears claim the LHSAA Select Division I State Title.  He finished the spring with a .452 AVG, to go along with 5 HR, 15 2B, 2 3B, 40 RBI, 40 R, and 22 SB.  What made his junior campaign even more impressive was the schedule that Catholic BR played, as they opened the season up with a three-game series against West Monroe (Non-Select Division I State Champions), before leaving the state for a couple of national tournaments, and once they came back, they had to face some of the state's best teams and arms with the likes of Central BR, Live Oak, and Mandeville, just to name a few.

The two-time former Future Gamer had an unfortunate start to his junior season, as he was battling a hamstring injury that caused him to miss multiple weeks of action, but when he returned, he proved once again why he's the state's top backstop.  We had the opportunity to see Barbe at the beginning of the year when he was injured and then again towards the back-end of district, when he was fully healthy, and he made a noticeable difference to the Bucs lineup.  The Texas A&M recruit virtually shut down the run game for opposing teams and was a sure bet to steal multiple strikes a game for Barbe pitchers.  Courville finished his junior campaign with 40 at-bats and ended up hitting at a .400 clip with 4 2B, 1 3B, and 12 RBI, while only striking out one time.

+ 2025 RHP/SS Marshall Louque (Lutcher HS)

Louque and his Lutcher teammates were left with a sour taste in their mouths, after getting knocked out of the 2023 playoffs in the quarterfinals, so we fully expected he and the Bulldogs to be extra-motivated this spring and they were.  The former Future Gamer had a monster junior season that culminated with Lutcher hoisting up the LHSAA Non-Select Division II State Championship trophy.  Louque was once again the Bulldogs go-to guy on the mound, as he finished the spring compiling an 8-2 record and 1.76 ERA with 92 K's across 67 2/3 IP.  He was equally as good with the bat as well, as he finished his junior campaign hitting .413 with 7 HR, 11 2B, 4 3B, 39 RBI, and 43 R.  The LSU recruit saved one of his best overall performances for when the Bulldogs needed the most, in the state semifinals against defending state champion Iowa.  Louque tossed a complete-game shutout with with 8 K's and also went 1-2 at the plate with a three-run homerun.

+ 2025 RHP Sawyer Pruitt (Live Oak HS)

The Eagles fell short of making the state tournament this spring, but that didn't take away from an impressive junior campaign for Pruitt.  The Ole Miss recruit was the Eagles #1 starter for a second consecutive season, and finished the spring with a 6-3 record and 1.40 ERA with 81 K's across 53 IP.  In our looks at Pruitt, his FB sat 88-92 mph and his 77-79 mph SL showed considerable improvements from last season.  The former Jr. Future Gamer has a physical and durable 6'5" 225 lbs. frame with a starter's profile.  He's another guy in the state's 2025 class that will likely be getting plenty of looks from MLB scouts this summer, especially if his heater can start to tick up into the mid-90's.
