Holly Springs -- 2 vs. Corinth Holders -- 6

Corinth Holders hosted Holly Springs in the third and deciding game of the 4A East Regional Final.

Junior Landon Ginn got the start on the bump for Corinth Holders. After striking out the leadoff batter, Matt Willadsen hit a routine fly ball that was dropped by the right fielder. Willadsen stole second and scored on a 1 out single by Patrick Trease. Trevor Sheehan drove a double in the left center gap that plated Trease to give Holly Springs a 2-0 lead.

In the bottom of the first, SS Tanner Smith lined a single into left center. A balk advanced Smith to 2b and he reached third on a dirt ball. Holly Springs starter Sam Kulasingam struck out the second batter and induced a weak pop up to shallow CF off the bat of Landon Ginn. Cleanup hitter Nick Tyler came up with a clutch 2 out single to drive in Smith, cutting the deficit to 2-1.

In his at bat in the 1st, starter Landon Ginn was injured on a check swing. He finished the at bat but was replaced by game 1 starter Tyler Stufano. Stufano was dominant throwing the final 6 innings for the Pirates in relief.

Holly Springs held the 2-1 lead until the bottom of the 5th. Dalton Wood drove a ball in the gap to start the inning. Hawks center-fielder Jayson Arendt tripped on the play, allowing Wood to reach 3b. Gideon Simms drove a single through the drawn in Hawks infield, scoring Wood and tying the game at 2. Kulasingam induced a weak comebacker off the bat of Tanner Smith for a routine double play opportunity. After getting the lead out at 2b, Holly Springs SS threw the ball away allowing Smith to advance to 2B. Ty Cummings moved Smith to 3b on a fielder’s choice for the second out. Tyler Stufano lined a single to right field that was bobbled, driving in Smith and moving Stufano to 2B. With their first lead of the game, Corinth tacked on with an rbi single off the bat of Nick Tyler. Now down 4-2, Holly Springs turned to Jayson Arendt with 2 outs in the 5th, but Corinth continued to attack.  Zach Blinson drove a ball past the CF scoring Tyler, moving the lead to 5-2.

The Pirates added one more insurance run in the 6th. Arendt issued a leadoff walk to Matt Kelley. Dalton Wood laid down a perfect bunt down the 3b line, beating Trevor Sheehan’s throw by half a step. The runners advanced to second and third on a dirt ball with no outs. After Arendt recorded a strikeout, Tanner Smith drove in Kelley with a sac fly to left, extending the lead to 6-2 for Corinth.

Stufano retired the Hawks 4-5-6 hitters in order to close out the game.  Corinth Holders will represent the East Region in the 4A NC State Championship. They will play a best of three series against the West Regional winner, Mooresville.
