APPLETON, WI – In the first Semifinal contest of the night Sun Prairie decided to flex there muscle with a 15-5 5 inning win over Stoughton. With the win the Cardinals will get the chance to defend their title on Thursday June 13 against Stevens Point.

The Cardinals swung the bat well up and down the lineup Tuesday night. Every Cardinal in the lineup recorded a hit and four Cardinals posted multi-hit nights.

The big blow came in the third inning when Sun Prairie sent 11 men to the plate scoring six runs on seven hits. Connor Funnel and Carter Brekke both had RBI doubles in the inning while Michael Brekke drove in two on a single.

Sun Prairie was led offensively by Bradley commit, Zach Fairchild. Fairchild had a perfect 4-for-4 night with three runs scored and an RBI including being intentionally walked once.

Junior Connor Funnel was a home run short of the cycle with three hits, three runs scored and two RBI.

Senior second baseman Brian Assalone has been asked for major contributions this year in the absence of Tony Butler. He scored three times on Tuesday after reaching base in all four plate appearances going 1-for-2 in the game.

The top of the Stoughton lineup kept the Vikings in the game as Ben Gerber, Zach Bower and Cade Bunnell were a combined 7-for-11, scoring three runs and two RBI. Unfortunately the Vikings couldn’t capitalize on their base runners as the rest of the lineup only contributed three hits.

Brett Yoder and Ryan Curran combined on the mound to allow just two earned runs while walking two and striking out four. Ryan Curran was credited with the win.

Sun Prairie will face Stevens Point in the State Championship game on Thursday June 13 at 6 pm.
