The 2023 high school baseball season is quickly approaching and as usual, excitement abounds throughout the state. Players and coaches have been working in preparation for the upcoming season and, as is the case each year, there are some very talented players and teams across Tennessee.

Teams across the state have goals and aspirations to finish their seasons in Murfreesboro at The Spring Fling as they compete for a state championship, but there is plenty of work to be done before that becomes reality. We hope to familiarize our readers with many of the teams across the state as we preview individual teams across Tennessee. We will take you right up to first pitch this season with these team previews and by continuing other pieces of content covering the Volunteer State.

Please keep checking back throughout the season as we will be your one-stop shop for everything related to high school baseball across the state. Each week we will be releasing our players of the week, updating the Top 10 in each TSSAA classification as well as a Power 25.

*Please note that all information is based on team preview questionnaires that were sent out and returned by the participating high school coaches.

Team Outlook:

The Bees were outstanding last year going 31-9 while capturing the newly structured 3A state championship. They have shown great balance on both sides, but the pitching depth and experience really stands out for the returning group. ‘23 LHP/OF Eli Huddleston (TN Tech commit) is coming off another Mr. Baseball Finalist season and will lead the charge on the mound (10-0; 0.55 ERA; 100 Ks). Behind him is ‘24 RHP/SS Caden Shanks, who ran it up to 90 at Future Games this past summer and drew plenty of D1 interest, will be another feature arm while anchoring the defense at shortstop. ‘23 RHP Braden Williams (Carson Newman commit) is another skilled veteran arm, who can fill multiple roles. ‘24 LHP Wyatt Curtis (ETSU) will be another skilled southpaw behind Huddleston. ‘23 RHP/CINF Caden Colson can provide some thump in the middle of the order and serve as the closer. While many of the previous players will serve as two way guys, the top hitting prospect is ‘25 OF/LHP Justin Fallon, who was all-state as a freshman and participated in the Future Games this past summer. Fallon just flat out hits (.417 BA) and he’ll play a key role towards the top of the lineup again. A thing to watch will be the sophomore class stepping into more consistent roles, such as ‘25 RHP/1B Alec Wilson and ‘25 RHP/INF Bobby Ray Kilpatrick. The Bees will be a heavy favorite within their district and should be one of the favorites for a chance to repeat as 3A state champs.
