Team Wisconsin: Game One Recap

From July 26th through July 29th, the Prep Baseball Report staff will run the 13th-annual PBR Future Games at the state-of-the-art LakePoint Sports Complex in Emerson, GA. 

The PBR Future Games workout took place on July 26th, kicking off a week of action at the largest uncommitted event of the year. The best uncommitted prospects from the 2025 and 2026 from 40+ states will participate in a three-game round-robin tournament to showcase their talents. 

This event will run in conjunction with the PBR Junior Future Games. The Junior Future Games features some of the top up-and-coming prospects within the 2027 and 2028 classes, featuring a tournament-style competition in a 14U and 13U field of teams from all across the nation. 

Below is a game recap and top performers from Thursday's first game as they took on a talented Team Michigan squad.

GAME ONE: TEAM WISCONSIN vs TEAM MICHIGAN

Team Wisconsin took the field for the first time this weekend to face-off against Team Michigan, looking to make noise at the national level against some of the best competition in the 2025 class.

It started with the arsenal of RHP Sawyer Deering (Kimberly, 2025), who twirled two-shutout innings in his lone appearance of the weekend. Deering reached 91.1 mph from the bump, coasting in the upper-80s throughout. He paired his top pitch with a sharp, biting slider that spun between 2,800-2,900 RPM. Deering struck out three batters in two innings of work, only allowing one hit.

That led into a hot start for Team Wisconsin’s offense, as the prospects from the Badger State got things started with two outs in the first inning. It began with a double from MIF Jack Lutz (Whitnall, 2025), a wiry 6-foot, 150-pound athlete who flashed power to the pull-side and up-the-middle throughout the Game One. Then, INF Jack Zeller (Indian Trail, 2025), C Marek Bolson (Oconomowoc, 2025), and UTL Ethan Bauerschmidt (Tremper, 2025) all produced base hits, including deep doubles from Zeller and Bolson.

The next inning was more of the same, as INF Preston Yaucher (Edgewood, 2025) got on the barrel and sent a single through the infield, plating a run. Yaucher continued to stay hot after a standout spring and dominant summer with his travel team, producing on the biggest stage for Team Wisconsin and extending their lead to 4-0.

It was then handed to the pitching staff, as the Team Wisconsin offense went silent for the next six innings. RHP Greyson Zach (Pewaukee, 2025) and RHP Jaxon Clayton (Brookfield Central, 2025) were two arms that saw significant time on the mound in the spring and over the summer, and once again put together a quality outing at the PBR Future Games.

In each one-inning stint, Zach and Clayton worked around one walk and struck out one batter in their appearances. Zach, a physical right-hander standing at 6-foot-3, 205-pounds, reached 89.8 mph in his outing, showcasing a lively fastball with a sharp breaking ball to keep hitters off balance, drawing weak contact throughout. He got the help of a diving catch from OF Trevor Vande Hey (Wrightstown, 2025) in right field, 

Clayton appeared in the seventh inning, striking out his first batter on a late-breaking slider, a pitch our staff witnessed throughout the winter and spring in multiple looks. His fastball ranged from 84-87 mph, and drew a double play to end a quick frame of work. 

In the mix as well were LHP’s Ryan Brennecke (Oconomowoc, 2025) and Brolan Frost (Elkhorn Area, 2025), each of which worked clean innings throughout the live action.

Brennecke ranged in the mid-to-upper-80s with the fastball, generating swings and misses on his top pitch and breaking ball mix. Frost finished off the game, maintaining the 4-4 tie that he held in the eighth inning of play, forcing weak contact and striking out one batter in his one inning of work. The left-hander changed speeds well, facing the minimum to end the game.

Despite ending with a 4-4 final score, Team Wisconsin showed well and got off to a quality start at the PBR Future Games. Highlighting the top offensive performers was Lutz, who finished with a 2-for-2 line, scoring a run and walking once.
