Texas JUCO Week 2 Rankings

Texas JUCO baseball is vibrant in 2019 and Noah Sharp, the PBR Texas JUCO Insider, is dedicated to watching over the state’s lively and competitive baseball scene. Texas alone named five of its programs in PBR JUCO’s Preseason Top 25 Rankings, and Sharp also produced the state’s very own Texas JUCO Top 25 Rankings, too. In this weekly column, we’ll break down the most notable D1, D2, and D3 action in the state from the past week.
In the second edition of the Texas JUCO Rankings, there was a little bit of movement within the top 10 – maybe even more movement than we'd expected to have seen this earlier in the season. UP OR DOWN?
Howard #3 → #5
Odessa #10→ #8
Howard and Odessa both opened their 2019 season against one another last week and it was the Wranglers that came out on top, 10-6. With the help of home runs from both Mason McLenna and Angel Torres, Odessa eventually pulled away to the win over the state's No. 3-ranked program. The score was a little closer than the final indicates, as Howard never trailed by more than a couple of runs until the ninth frame, but the updated rankings do reflect the first result for both top-10 teams.
Midland #14 → #16
Midland opened up its 2019 season with a three-game series against McLennan and was, unfortunately, on the losing end of all three games. The Chaps were outscored 34-16 in the three-game series and are headed to Weatherford this weekend to take on the No. 7 Coyotes.
Paris #17 → #21
Paris has stumbled out of the gate this spring, earning just one win in their first six games. Just this last week, the Dragons travelled to Eunice, La., where they were swept in three games at the hands of the reigning D-2 champs.
Alvin #21 → #17
The Alvin Dolphins are riding a hot streak to start their spring. In Week 2 action, they swept an unranked Western Texas team and improved to 5-0 to start 2019.
Richland (unranked) → #23
Unranked no more, the ThunderDucks are streaking to start the spring schedule and have their foot on the accelerator. They played six games in their first week of action and won all six. INF Riley Blanton and sophomore OF Cody Windisch both helped Richland put together an impressive undefeated week.
On the JUCO Wire
