Top Prospect Games (Upperclass): Quick Hits

PBR Alabama Staff

OXFORD, AL - The Top Prospect Games (Upperclass) was held on Tuesday, June 13th at Choccolocco Park in Oxford, AL. This event was an invite-only event that consisted of some of the top prospects from the 2024 and 2025 classes. These players went through a pro-style workout and took batting practice using Trackman and Blast Motion to record hitting metrics. Pitchers were able to throw in simulated outings facing hitters during gameplay and were able to get numbers and metrics off of our Trackman unit, such as pitch velocity, spin rate, horizontal & vertical movement & much more. There were some players who showed up and continued to build off of prior performances, but there were also some new names who jumped onto our radar with a strong showing on Tuesday.

Kicking off our post-event coverage for the event, we take a look back at some of the top performers and standouts. Continuing over the course of the next week or so, we will release Statistical Leaderboards for the event then transition into releasing individual scouting reports for each player in attendance.

Brendan Conner RHP / 3B / Corner, AL / 2024

Uncommitted. 6-foot-1, 210-pound frame. Durable, workhorse type build with proportional and defined strength throughout his frame. Currently regarded as the top-ranked uncommitted prospect in the rising senior class in AL. Elite two-way ability makes him a must-follow throughout the rest of the summer. Posted the best round of BP with an average exit velocity of 96.1 mph and a top exit velocity at 101.9 mph, both event-bests. Simple setup with wide base, short trigger and really strong at the point of contact. Ball jumps off the barrel with gap-to-gap pop. Hopped on the mound and tossed a scoreless frame reaching his fastball to 90.3 mph while operating 87-89 mph throughout, featuring heavy sink to the bottom of the zone. Utilizes two distinct breaking balls, slider was best secondary offering spinning 73-76 mph with spin rates near 2600 rpm, also mixed in 72-73 mph curveball with bigger 12-6 shape. Excellent makeup and is a winner. Name to know in the rising 2024 class in AL.

Zackary Johnson C / Bob Jones , AL / 2025

Uncommitted. 6-foot-0, 185-pounds. Lean strength throughout his frame with some above-average athleticism for a catcher. Hockey background. Excellent all-around day for the Top-10 prospect in the rising junior class in AL. Consistent in-game performer this past spring for the 7A Patriots, and did more of the same at yesterday’s event. Flashed good feel for barrel throughout his round generating mid-90 EV’s with pull-side pop. Hands work clean through the zone. Recorded two hits during gameplay with a ringing double off of the wall in left field. One of the top catch-and-throw skills from the event, posting 1.86-2.02 pop times and a 79 mph catcher velocity from the crouch. Clean receiver and flexible enough to block pitches laterally. Big riser in most-recent 2025 rankings and continues to trend up.

Brady Wilson RHP / Decatur Heritage Christian, AL / 2025

Uncommitted. 6-foot-6, 215-pounds. Towering frame with still plenty of projection to be had. Could still benefit more from added strength and continue to fill out to massive build. Mixed all three above-average offerings for strikes throughout his outing, in which he tossed a scoreless frame during gameplay. Works exclusively from the stretch. Utilizes high ¾ arm slot with a bit of crossfire delivery. Pumped tailing fastball that operated near the 85-88 mph range for the majority of his outing and touched 89 mph early. Solid metrics on the fastball, posted a 19.8 in. HM avg., 91% zone percentage, and 94% spin efficiency, all of which were event-bests. Slider spins well at 75-78 mph while registering spin rates north of 2400 rpm. Features late bite with sharp horizontal break and was landed for strikes (71% zone percentage). Also mixed in diving changeup that killed spin, registering an average spin rate of 1298 rpm. Plenty to like with a towering frame and quality three-pitch mix in the rising junior class in AL.

Noah Blackburn C / Mobile Christian , AL / 2025

Uncommitted. 6-foot-0, 195-pounds. Prototypical catchers build with strength throughout frame. Top-10 prospect in the rising junior class in AL with ability to impact the game offensively and defensively with good skills. Former Future Gamer in 2022 and will be back in 2023. Top-5 round of BP from the event lifting balls to deep to the pull-side with mid-90 exits. Creates sizable separation with his hands and turns the barrel in a quick window, leading a heavy barrel to the point of contact. Ball can jump off the barrel and has shown power during in-game looks. Polished receiver defensively with ability to expand the zone for pitchers. Good catch-and-throw ability posting 1.96-2.06 pop times and 78 mph catcher velocity. Accurate arm with quick transfer. Solid tools across the board and is a strong follow moving forward in the 2025 class in AL.

Nick Richardson OF / Oxford, AL / 2025

Uncommitted. 5-foot-11, 155-pounds. Athletic and still very lean with much more projection to come down the road. Excellent skills across the board and possesses sizable upside once he continues to mature and develop. Leadoff hitter for 6A State Champions and fits that mold with top-of-the-order traits. Looks to drive the ball to the opposite-field gap within his approach showing excellent bat-to-ball ability and level stroke from the left side of the plate. Offensive ability shows up in-game with multiple hits to the opposite-field during gameplay. Clocked a 6.95 60 YD during the workout, but his athleticism shows up in more ways than just straight-line speed. Also a wide receiver in football with crisp routes, which translates to ball-hawking skills in the outfield. Average arm with good accuracy from the outfield that should only continue to get stronger. Still much more to come for this prospect in the rising junior class in AL.

Jaden Charles OF / Hazel Green , AL / 2025

Uncommitted. 5-foot-9, 135-pounds. Leanest of frames with top-end athleticism. Obviously still much more physical strength to come, but arguably the top athlete in the 2025 class in AL. Clocked an event-best, and possibly a PBR showcase record, 60 YD time of 6.49 with blazing speed and longer strides for his frame. Not just a runner, as the right-hander flashed sneaky power potential during his round of BP with a top exit velocity at 93.3 mph to go along with a max distance of 344 ft. Balanced setup with efficient rhythm throughout with above-average bat speed that leads to gap-to-gap contact. Hit five home runs this spring slated near the top of the lineup for the 6A Trojans. Another rising junior in AL to follow moving forward.

Edward Mcleod Jr. 3B / 1B / St. Paul's , AL / 2025

Uncommitted. 6-foot-3, 230-pound. Hard to miss with massive frame and immense physicality. Offense-first type prospect who looks to punish baseballs with a relatively low swing-and-miss rate during gameplay. Took BP with wood and registered consistent mid-90 EVs and a max at 97.9 mph. More line drives to both gaps during this look, but obviously possesses tons of power with his strong frame and above-average bat speed. Tall and narrow stance with a really early stride allows him to be on-time for fastballs during at-bats. Hunts fastballs and looks to drive them using gap-to-gap approach. Not a bad runner for his size clocking a 7.25 60 YD during the workout. Hit well over .400 this past spring with near double digit home runs. One of the top corner infielders in the rising junior class in AL.

Aiden Brunner C / Alexandria, AL / 2024

Uncommitted. 6-foot-1, 185-pounds. Present strength throughout his frame with room to continue to add. Coming off a strong season for one of the top teams in Class 5A hitting in the heart of the order and handling their pitching staff en route to Sweet 16 appearance. Simple, balanced setup hitting from the right side. Hands slot lower during load allowing him to lead the barrel through the zone using a knob-led path. Can turn the barrel in a quick window with sizable gap-to-gap power. Strong round of BP with consistent firm contact driving to all fields with authority. Translated well to gameplay where he accumulated numerous hits, including an opposite-field home run. Skilled defender behind the dish with 1.88-1.95 pop times and 81 mph catcher velocity, an event-best. Above-average receiver with quick transfer on throws to the second-base bag. Another quality uncommitted prospect in the rising senior class in AL.

William Tonsmeire OF / Vestavia Hills, AL / 2025

Uncommitted. 5-foot-9, 180-pounds. Athletic skill set with a compact frame that possesses tons of physical and proportional strength. Plays with an edge and much bigger than his frame would suggest. Right-handed hitter with present twitch and strength that plays well in his offensive profile. Swings the barrel with violence and intent to hammer baseballs to the pull-side gap registering a top exit velocity at 99.6 mph and an average of 93,7 mph, both second-best from the event. Also led the way with the furthest ball recorded with max distance that registered 393 feet. Came up with numerous clutch hits during the Class 7A Championship series with a walk-off double in Game 1 and a game-tying single with two outs in the 7th in Game 2. Dynamic combination of strength and athleticism running a 6.62 60 YD during the workout. Starting running back for the Rebels on the gridiron.

Austin Uptain RHP / Athens, AL / 2024

Uncommitted. 6-foot-0, 165-pounds. Athletic right-hander who has already seemed to have added strength since the last viewing in January. Possesses a quick arm coming out of a compact, high ¾ arm slot. Spotted up to both halves living off of fastball that range 85-88.7 mph while recording some of the highest spin rates north of 2500 rpm on the offering. Features some arm-side run and was able to locate it to the glove-side of the zone efficiently. Primary secondary offering was a true curveball that flashed 12-6 shape and worked 74-76 mph with 2400 rpm. Also mixed in changeup ranging 78-81 mph that has a chance to be a solid third offering in his arsenal. Really effective right-hander when in the zone flashing swing-and-miss stuff. Another quality uncommitted prospect in the rising senior class in AL to follow.

Emory Yohn OF / Central-Phenix City, AL / 2025

Uncommitted. 5-foot-11, 170-pounds. Athletic build with some present strength and room for added mass. Performed well this spring hitting in an upperclassmen-led lineup for the 7A Red Devils. Really solid all-around workout ranking in the Top-10 in most statistical categories while posting a good round of BP. Athletic, rhythmic setup hitting from the right side of the plate and utilities a controlled stride for trigger. Fast barrel through the zone with quicker hands allows the ball to jump off the barrel. Mostly gap-to-gap approach and consistently found the barrel with each swing recording numerous low-90 EVs. Clocked a 7.01 60 YD and showed an above-average arm from the outfield touching 87 mph on throws to home plate. Quality uncommitted rising junior in AL.

Sean Lapinskes 3B / Westminster Christian, AL / 2024

Uncommitted. 6-foot-0, 190-pounds. Defined strength throughout his frame and noticeable in the lower-half. Flashed an intriguing set of tools across the board and was ranked near the top in most statistical categories. Braden Fox OF / Auburn, AL / 2024

Uncommitted. 5-foot-11, 185-pounds. Possesses a strong lower-half with some twitch and athleticism. Logged some quality playing time for the 7A Tigers this spring and looks poised for a strong senior season. Really good all-around day performing well in multiple facets of the workout and getting off some quality swings during gameplay facing some talented arms. Minimal pre-pitch movements outside of a shorter toe-tap stride and showing the ability to turn the barrel with quickness using a strong top hand. Consistent exit velocities in the low-90s during his round of BP with firm contact to the pull-side and a top EV at 97.6 mph. Athletic outfielder that moves well covering ground in the grass and clocked a 6.97 60 YD during the workout.

Steven Cavaco 1B / Huntsville, AL / 2025

Uncommitted. 5-foot-11, 165-pounds. Medium frame with proportional build. Possesses one of the smooth left-handed swings in the rising junior class in AL. Delivered consistent strong contact to the pull-side throughout his round of BP with numerous low-90 EVs and a max of 95.2 mph. Always synced up and connected throughout his swing with a stronger top-hand allows the barrel to turn with ease and quickness and showed solid feel for the sweet spot.
