Top Uncommitted Class of 2016 Corner Infielders

The early signing period is a little more than a month away for this year’s senior class, and while the recruiting process in baseball has sped up significantly over the past few years, there are always quality players left on the board this time of year. This year is no different.

We recently updated our Class of 2016 rankings and have begun to take a look at the top ranked uncommitted seniors by position group. Today we take a look at some of the top uncommitted corner infielders from the 2016 class.

Name: Trevor Howardhoward
Height: 6-3
Weight: 210
High School: Southwestern
Position: 3B
State Ranking: 13
Scouting Report: (6/16/15) 6-foot-3, 210-pounds, strong/athletic frame, right-handed hitter hits from an open stance and gets to square with a short stride, explosive lower half, plus bat speed that generates power to all fields, 98 mph exit velocity (holds PBR Kentucky record of 102 mph), ran 4.81 home to first, went 1-for-4 in game play with a triple to left-center. Shows soft hands and good athleticism for size, good arm strength that plays well across the diamond at 88 mph, the top uncommitted power bat in the 2016 class has set school record for most career home runs.

Scouting Report: 6-foot-1, 210-pound prospect showed his combination of power and athleticism, right-handed hitter hits from a balanced stance, short stride, has quieted down his pre-pitch hand movement, explodes with lower half, good extension through contact, legitimate power threat at the plate, showed his ability to generate bat speed with 97 mph exit velocity, surprising speed for size with 6.94 60-yard dash. Defensively, participated at both corner infield spots, moves well, 85 mph arm strength across the infield, potential middle-of-the-order bat at the next level.

Scouting Report: (6/17/15) 6-foot-1, 185-pound right-handed hitter hits from a slightly open stance and squares with a short stride, generates bat speed with strong frame and hand quickness, short swing path with good extension, impressive round of BP showing some power to all fields, would like to see him be more aggressive in game play, 90 mph exit velocity, went 0-for-3 and ran a 4.62 down the line. Shows soft hands and moves well laterally, 79 mph velocity across the infield (have seen up to 83) with accurate throws, has potential to be a power-hitting 3B at the next level.

State Ranking: 61
Scouting Report: (6/16/15) 5-foot-11, 205-pounds, strong lower half, right-handed hitter hits from an open stance, leg kick with mid-length stride, short swing path with extension through contact, consistently barreled the baseball in BP with power potential, impressive in game play going 3-for-3 with a triple to right-center, ran 4.75 down the line, 94 mph exit velocity. Soft hands, showed a drop in arm strength from previous event with some stiffness, 74 mph velocity with some accuracy.

State Ranking: 74
Scouting Report: (6/17/14) 5-foot-11, 175-pound prospect hits from a wide base with minimal stride and gets good lower half torque in his swing.  He registered an 84 mph tee exit velocity and has power potential from the left side.  Eubanks went 0-for-4 in game play, reaching base on an error once and ran 4.57 down the first base line.  Defensively, he showed solid corner actions with capable hands and 79 mph arm strength across the infield with accurate throws.  On the mound,  works through a ¾ arm slot that produces some arm-side run and sink on his 80-82 mph fastball that touched 83, curveball showed 11/5 action at 66-68 mph, throws changeup with fastball arm speed at 74 mph that shows very good sink and fade, arm is quick, works both sides of the plate well, allowed no hits and struck out two of the five batters he faced, established himself as a 2016 pitcher to follow. Eubanks is a 2016 player to keep an eye on.

Scouting Report: (6/17/15) 6-foot-3, 205-pound RHP uses shorter arm action and works through a high-3/4 to over the top arm slot, regular effort in delivery and lands square to the plate, throws strikes, fastball sat 80-82 mph and is mostly straight, showed good feel for 71-72 mph curveball with solid 11/5 action, induced three fly ball outs in one perfect inning of work on the mound.  As a position player, 6-foot-2, 205-pound right-handed hitter hits from a balanced stance with a short stride, good balance, uses strong lower half, shows occasional pull-side power as ball jumps of his bat, good bat speed, 92 mph exit velocity, runs well for size 4.59 down the line, went 1-for-3 in game play with a single to center. Shows soft hands at first base, above average footwork around the bag, quick exchange with 82 mph velocity and accurate throws.

Scouting Report: (6/16/15) 5-foot-11, 235-pound right-handed hitter hits from an open stance and squares front side with a mid-length stride, uses lower half torque well to generate bat speed though the zone, 88 mph exit velocity, ball jumps off his bat and shows good pull side power, went 0-for-3 in game play with a hard line out to SS, ran 4.70 down the line. Defensively, shows good athleticism for size, soft hands, short ¾ to high-3/4 release with 77 mph velocity across the infield with some accuracy.
