The start of 2020 brings a lot of excitement and goal setting for players, coaches, and scouts across the country.  As we begin to look forward, we also take a brief look back at 2019 and some of the exciting things that happened, along with some of the stories that drew a lot of attention in the state of North Carolina. 

In 2019, Prep Baseball Report saw 9 million views on stories published to the site.  We also saw over 8.9 million hits on player profiles hosted within PBR.  As part of our look back at 2019, we will countdown some of the top viewed profiles and top news stories from the year.  Today we open up the look at the Top Viewed Stories in NC from 2019 with No. 9 on our list.

No. 9 - NC in the Draft

North Carolina saw another MLB Draft with a slew of players from the Tarheel state hearing their name.  For the 3rd year in a row, a North Carolina HS player heard his name in the 1st round.  Overall the state saw 9 players with North Carolina ties taken on day 1.  In total, 65 players from North Carolina schools (HS or college) were taken in the 2019 draft with 8 North Carolina high school prospects selected.

  • 8 North Carolina High School prospects selected
  • 65 Players from North Carolina Schools (HS or college – current) selected
  • 5 of the 8 High School prospects selected from NC are pitchers
  • 37 of the 65 total players from North Carolina are pitchers
  • 9 players at UNC were selected (leading all NC schools)
  • 8 players at NC State were selected
  • 7 players at ECU were selected
  • 2 players from New Hanover HS were selected (leading all NC High Schools)
