Mount St. Joseph senior right-handed pitcher John Torroella (Brown) was un-hittable Tuesday afternoon as the Gaels upset No. 3 Archbishop Spalding by a final score of 3-0. Both Torroella and Spalding RHP Zach Powers (Navy) were outstanding but in the end it was Torroella who stole the show striking out thirteen in route to his no-hitter. 

Mount St. Joseph's Michael Rosen took advantage of back to back walks by Powers in the third inning breaking the scoreless tie with an RBI double down the left field line to score Ethan Grieb. The Gaels held the 1-0 lead until the fifth when they tacked on two more runs on three Cavalier errors. Rosen (2-for-3, RBI) and Grieb (2-for-2, 2 RBI's) accounted for all four of the Gaels hits in the game to led the Mount St. Joseph offense. 

Torroella surrendered five walks in the ballgame but none of them ever reached second base. Left fielder Matty McManus made a spectacular running catch over his head in left field on the only hard hit ball for Spalding off the bat of Ben Wieman to preserve the no-no. Torroella really did a nice job of keeping the Spalding hitters off balance with a steady mix of off-speed breaking balls and a hard fastball. He located his pitches well and worked ahead in counts often. 

With the win, the Gaels improve to (7-2) on the year and (4-1) in the MIAA Conference while Spalding falls to (6-3) and (2-2) in conference. Mount St. Joseph travels to No. 8 Gilman on Thursday and the Cavaliers will look to get back on track Thursday as well when they host McDonogh.
