In a press release issued earlier today, USA baseball announced that Louisiana native and head coach of perennial powerhouse Barbe HS Glenn Cecchini would lead the 18U National Team. After a wildly successful 2014 spring season that saw Barbe finish 39-2, taking home a national championship, as well as its seventh 5A state title in Louisiana, Cecchini looks to win a gold medal now.

Cecchini has extensive experience with Team USA after having two sons, Garin and Gavin, both taking home gold medals in 2009 and 2011 respectively during enormously successful prep careers in the state of Louisiana.

Cecchini will be assisted with a highly decorated coaching staff including 2006 World Series MVP David Eckstein, current Cal State Northridge head coach Greg Moore, and Horizon HS, AZ, head coach Eric Kibler, who managed the 16U National Team in 2010.

"The 2015 18U National Team is in great hands heading into the World Cup," said USA Baseball's executive director/CEO, Paul Seiler. "Our 18U director, Shaun Cole, has assembled an impressive staff of coaches with experience with our organization and a pedigree of success with a World Series MVP, a successful division I head coach and two nationally recognized high school coaches."

It will be a busy spring for Cecchini as his Buccaneers look to repeat as state champions after losing several impact starters to graduation. He has built an enormously consistent program at Barbe HS and is more than worthy of this prestigious assignment.
