2019 Uncommitted Left-handed Hitting Outfielders

Buddy Gouldsmith
Nevada Scouting Director

Generally, recruiting needs become very specific for the current graduating class (2019).  Many high level programs have earmarked specific needs with regard to position, pitcher type, hitter type, offensive first, or defensive first categories. Other programs are waiting for players to develop and present themselves as candidates to fill more general future needs. At PBR Nevada, we intend to recognize players that possess the ability to fill both the specific needs for those programs farther along in the recruiting process as well as programs in need of certain positional players. PBR Nevada has identified four uncommitted left-handed hitting outfielders based on in game performances this fall.

Paul Vossen, CF, Bishop Manogue, (2019)

Small frame, 5-foot-8, 150. Vossen is twitchy with wiry strength.  Relying heavily on his speed, he sprayed the ball around the field with line drives to all fields.  He runs well, stealing bases without hesitation. Vossen scored from first on a double to the right center field gap that did not reach the warning track. He showed a feel for the short game, laying a bunt down the third base line, allowing for no play. He is a prototypical leadoff hitter. Vossen is a capable outfielder and can cover a lot of ground. He needs to develop his arm strength but possesses the ability to make quick and accurate throws.

Tommy Dirk, OF, Foothill, (2019)

Strong, 5-foot-7, 170, Dirk has a compact frame with present strength, stocky with a well-developed lower half. He is a corner outfield type player at the next level with playable arm strength. He takes good routes and employs proper footwork with a reverse pivot when ranging to the line.  At the plate, he sets with hands at his shoulder and a flat bat followed by a raising of the bat, cocking of his hands and tipping of the barrel toward the pitcher.  This leading to a swing that is aggressive above his stature. He made consistent contact using the whole field, displaying sneaky pull-side power.  Although not a “burner”, he ran the bases intelligently and aggressively.

Kaeden Camat-Toki, Liberty, (2019)

Undersized, 5-foot-7, 145, Camat-Toki has a small frame that can be enhanced with strength gains.  He is a high energy player that relies heavily on speed and quickness.  He sets in the box with a centered and balanced stance, knees slightly knocked in.  The hands are shoulder height and move in a rhythmic fashion pre-pitch. He shows a middle to opposite field approach which plays to his speed.  He is a leadoff, possible two-hole type in the lineup or could be used at the bottom of an order to turn the lineup over.  Defensively, he was able to catch what he go to and showed an accurate arm on throws to the bases as well as the cutoff men. He ran the bases hard posting a 4.2 home to first,

John Kane, OF, Reno, (2019)

Strong, 6-foot-0, 185. Kane has an athletic, frame with present strength. With developed forearms and core, he showed a good combination of strength and bat speed. Kane possesses a middle of the field approach and creates consistent hard contact with an aggressive swing. He profiles as a corner outfielder with projectable power even though his orientation is to hit for average at this time.  He hit a towering home run to right field. Kane made on target throws from the outfield. He was aggressive on the bases, moving from first to third on a base hit to left field.
