Scouting Report

8/11/18- 6-foot-3, 220-pound right-handed throwing pitcher.  Big frame with mound presence.  Smooth rhythm and tempo through delivery.  Good direction down mound with long arm action.  Fastball is 82-83 mph with downhill action and sink.  Curveball is 11/5 with good spin and late break for strikes at 70-71 mph.  Change-up is hard and straight with occasional fade.  Interesting 2019 follow.   

3/18/18- 6-foot-3, 225-pound left-handed hitting pitcher. Large durable frame with present strength. Shows tempo and rhythm in delivery. Long clean arm action out front with slight stab down on back side. Stays linear down mound and shows ability to drive baseball through zone. Fastball was 82-83 mph with varying run and cut action to plate. Has hand speed on breaking ball; thrown with tight spin and solid 11/5 break. Changeup is thrown at fastball arm speed and has solid fade to plate. Follow in 2019 MN class.

PBR: What schools have expressed interest in you?

Perala: University of Minnesota - Duluth, St. Scholastica, Augustana College, North Dakota State University, and Luther College have all expressed interest in me.

PBR: Have you taken any visits, or have any visits scheduled in the near future?

Perala: I have had visits at UMD and St. Scholastica, and will be visiting Luther in early November. 

PBR: Are you looking for anything in particular in a school? (Example: high academics, certain academic program, local, etc.)

Perala: I expect that a potential future school for me has a rigorous academic program with the opportunity to get a Biochemistry undergraduate degree. After earning a bachelor’s degree I plan to earn a PhD in Biochemistry to pursue research. 

PBR: What were some of your highlights during your junior year?

Perala: Pitching 6 2/3 innings vs. International Falls, tallying 14 K’s, 3 hits, and 1 unearned run Pitching 3 innings and striking out 8 before getting injured vs. state-qualifying Duluth Marshall, pitching 6 2/3 innings vs South Ridge, 14 K’s, 3 Hits, 1 Earned Run and Ending the season with: .99 WHIP, 78 K’s over 38 innings, 1.5 ERA 

PBR: What are your goals for this year?

Perala: This year I plan to make a decision for my future in baseball. I will focus on being dominant on the mound and will do my best to help my team get deep into the playoffs. 

PBR: Do you play any other sports?

Perala: I play basketball in the winter. We should be pretty competitive this year in section 7AA. 

PBR: What is your ACT and GPA?

Perala: ACT: 30 GPA: 3.98
