Under The Radar: Unsigned Seniors

By: Zac Bottoms
Arkansas Scouting Director

The 2017 baseball season is rapidly approaching its end, as regular season games wrap up in some classifications this week moving into conference tournaments next week, regionals the following and the state tournament is just three weeks away. With that being said, I want to take a look at some unsigned seniors that are having a good year.

Blake McCutchen, MIF, Cabot HS
McCutchen is a 5-foot-11 165-pound middle infielder with an athletic frame and build. He ran a 6.75 in the 60. Defensively he plays through the baseball with fluid actions. He throws the ball from an H 3/4 arm slot with a quick arm action. He throws the baseball 80 mph across the infield. Offensively he starts from a slightly open stance with a small leg lift. He uses rushed rhythm and attacks the baseball with a line drive swing. He produces exit velocity up to 90 mph. Overall McCutchen is an advanced defender with above athleticism.

McCutchen is hitting .289 with 5 doubles, 3 triples, 11 RBIS, 26 runs scored out of the lead of spot for Cabot, as they are in a run to a conference title.

Chandler Cook, MIF/RHP, Siloam Springs HS
Cook is a 6-foot-2 170-pound infielder right-handed pitcher, with an athletic frame and build. He runs a 6.97 in the 60. Defensively he works through the baseball with a fluid actions, he throws the baseball 82 mph across the infield. Offensively he produces exit velocities up to 89 mph. He starts with an athletic stance, he uses a line drive swing and maintains balance through extension. Overall a versatile player with enough tools to play collegiately.

Cook is hitting, .485 with 8 doubles, 3 triples, 4 home runs, with 18 RBIs and 27 runs scored. He has been a force offensively for Siloam Springs as they continue to work toward a state tournament bid.

Kaden Tollett, RHP, De Queen HS
Tollett is a 6-foot-2 180-pound right-hander with an athletic frame and build. He pitches from a low ¾ arm slot with normal arm speed. He commands the strike zone on both sides of the plate with a fastball which works 80-83 mph with cut action. He compliments that with a Frisbee slider thrown 69-70 mph with gradual break. He also throws a change up 73-74 mph with arm side run. Overall Tollett is a solid pitcher commanding three pitches for a strike on a consistent basis.

He is having a solid year, as he carries the load for De Queen with 13 appearances this spring. His ability to stabilize the pitching staff has them 6-3 conference record, in the thick of the action for a state tournament bid.
