Underclass All State Game - Quick Hits

Buddy Gouldsmith
Nevada Scouting Director

PBR Nevada brought together a select group of underclassmen to evaluate their skills as well as playability on the campus of the College of Southern Nevada. These individuals had been identified through their participation at prior events as well as their play throughout the spring and summer. With college recruiters and scouts on hand, the group did not disappoint.  These rising stars are proof the baseball future is bright in the Silver State.

’22 Mason McCormack (Coronado), OF, McCormack is presently a lanky, lively bodied outfielder with actions for all 3 outfield positions. His 82-mph positional velocity came from a ¾ slot with solid carry. He has a looseness to his swing that should result in the ability to drive the ball to all fields. He ran well for size and strength, posting a 7.0 60-yard time and ran better underway.

'22 Kaden Schuck (Reno), C, Schuck has made tremendous strides since last fall. His size and strength gains were prominent in both the physicality of his throws and his swing.  He showed quality contact at the plate during the game and has maintained his instincts for the catching position. With continued similar development, Schuck looks to be a future force behind the plate.

’22 Canyon Kutch, (Bishop Gorman), C, Kutch is a sturdy bodied backstop with present strength His pop times were tremendously consistent 2.07-2.08 with tag zone accuracy. He shows strength in his barrel with a middle of the field approach and consistent quality contact during his BP session. Kutch is another in a line of catchers from the Silver State that will garner the attention of suitors at the next level.

’22 Joey Randazzo, (Bishop Gorman), UT, Randazzo posted an event best 6.95 60-yard time amongst the underclass participants. A capable catcher, he runs well and better underway. He has good feel for a lefthanded swing with some natural loft, driving the ball up into the RCF gap in game. He has a noticeable utility with playability just about anywhere on the field.

’23 Cooper Sheff, (Basic), UT, Sheff looks to have a large frame, standing 6’2 185 with room for growth. It is easy to see future power in his swing. Defensively, he has solid actions but size and strength likely push him to a corner infield position. He topped out at 79 on the mound, but time will reveal a mid to upper 80s arm for sure, if not more. He has good arm action out of a true ¾ slot with arm side life.

’22 Mike Cruz, (Reno), 3B. The youthful bodied Cruz can really handle the bat, consistently making hard contact with a middle to pull side approach. He has solid actions in the infield, utilizing a quick exchange over pure arm strength to carry throws across the diamond. Continued strength and body restructuring will be pertinent to stay in the infield but could potentially have a future behind the plate.

’22 Tommy Rose, (Bishop Gorman), OF. Rose has true outfield actions and his 7.03 60-yard time indicates he should have the ability to play centerfield down the road. The left-handed hitting outfielder has a loose and whippy barrel. PBR Nevada is anxious to watch the progression of this athletic player.

’22 Garrison Geis, (Reno), 3B. Geis is strong bodied with a physical swing, making loud contact during his BP session. He has reliable infield actions with enough present arm strength to easily carry across the infield. On the mound, he showed good zone feel for a 3-pitch mix, topping out at 79 with more in the tank.
