Underclass Games: Team Blue Analysis

On Tuesday, July 29th, PBR Indiana hosted its Inaugural Underclass Games at Grand Park in Westfield, IN. A total of 70 players from across the state participated in the highly talented event. 

In the coming weeks, we will be adding and updating profiles for each of the players in attendance, including complete analysis and video.

Today we take a look at notes on players from Team Blue: 

Andrew Hartkorn, OF/LHP, Franklin HS, 2016: 6 foot 3 inches, 185 pounds, 7.11/60 R/L, Strong, athletic, lanky frame with wide shoulders and narrow hips. Throws 75 mph from the outfield with a quick, high ¾ arm slot with average carry and on target. He hits from a wide, closed stance with a short stride with his hands high, he gets extension through contact, pull hitter. On the mound his fastball is 75-76 with heavy downhill plain, slider is 67-68 with gradual break, he throws both pitches for strikes  with a short, max effort delivery.

Andy Bennett, SS/OF, Fishers HS, 2017: 6 foot 1 inch, 185 pounds, 6.98/60, Athletic frame with a strong lower body. Aggressive player that throws 76 mph across the infield from a ¾ arm slot with average carry and on target. Offensively he has a buggy whip type swing from an open stance with a short stride and good extension through contact. Line drive type hitter that will hit for power as he gets stronger. High follow 2017. 

Arian Coffey, 3B/RHP, Delta HS, 2016: 6 foot 3 inches, 155 pounds, 7.88/60, Tall and lanky with wide shoulders. Very projectable player. On the mound he has a serviceable curveball  ( 63 mph)and a fastball ( 74-75 mph) with some slight movement and in the strike zone. His arm action is short and quick from a ¾ slot.  He hits in a open stance with a short stride, power from his lower body generates a fast bat with extension through contact.

Cade Willard, RHP/OF, Eastside HS, 2017: 6 foot 2 inches, 170 pounds, 6.94/60, Strong, athletic player with wide shoulders and narrow hips. Above average outfielder with a long ¾ release, the ball carries and is on target ( 82 mph)  He has average hands, fluid feet and a clean transfer. At the plate he hits from a balanced stance with a short stride and explosive hips that create a fast bat, line drive hitter that keeps the bat on a level path, pull hitter .

Caden Jones. LHP/OF, Crawfordsville HS, 2017: 5 foot 11 inches, 215 pounds, 7.19/60, Athletic, big body player that plays hard. He throws 78 mph from the outfield, consistently on target with average carry. He hits from a crouched stance with a short stride, has a fast bat with a level path to the ball. Pull hitter that will hit for power as he gets stronger. On the mound his fastball is 77-80 with some downhill plain, curveball is serviceable (60-62 mph). Has a quick, loose arm, Projectable left hand pitcher.

Cameron Boyd, RHP, Fishers HS, 2016:6 foot 2 inches, 205 pounds, 7.76/60, Strong, athletic right hand pitcher. Fastball is 79-80 and touches 84, easy, quick arm with a long ¾ release. Fills up the strike zone and makes pitches when he needs to.  Offensively he hits from a wide stance with a short stride and a fast bat with level extension through contact.

Damon Maynard, C/MIF, Greenwood HS, 2017: 5 foot 10 inches, 155 pounds, 8.03/60, 2.16/2.26 pop time. I like him behind the plate, he works hard and makes pitcher look good. Athletic player that throws 75 mph to second with carry and on target. He hits from a balanced stance with a short stride and average bat speed. His swing is compact, line drive hitter that will generate power as he gets stronger.

Drew Hensley, SS/C, Bedford North Lawrence HS, 2017: 5 foot 10 inches, 147 pounds, 7.62/60, smooth  fielding shortstop with very good actions. Soft hands, fluid feet and a good exchange. Throws 78 mph across the infield with a short arm action and always on target with average carry. Hits from an open stance with a long level path to contact. Line drive hitter that doesn’t miss many strikes.

Harrison Freed, OF/3B, Westfield HS, 2016: 5 foot 11 inches, 185 pounds, 7.25/60. Solid athlete with a strong lower body. Throws 79 mph from right field with short arm action and high ¾ arm slot. He has average hands with fluid feet and a good exchange. He hits in a balanced stance with a short stride and a level path to the ball.

Jake Rosenberger, OF/SS, Columbus East HS, 2018: 5 foot 7 inches, 140 pounds, 8.31/60, Thin, lanky, athletic frame that will fill out and get stronger. Aggressive hitter with a fast bat hits line drives to all fields. He throws 69 mph from the outfield with a long ¾ arm slot.

Jack Perkins, MIF/RHP, Kokomo HS, 2018: 5 foot 11 inches, 165 pounds, 7.28/60, Very projectable young player with a live arm. ¾ arm slot and a loose, effortless delivery. His fastball is 82-84 with heavy downhill plain and in the strike zone. He has a tendency to hang his curveball.  Offensively he hits from a crouch with a short stride and a fast bat that stays on a level path to contact, line drive type hitter that sprays the ball and will grow to be a gap to gap power guy. Plus actions at second base with average hands, fluid feet and a good ball transfer.

Jake Ostrowski, RHP/SS, FW Carroll HS, 2017: 6 foot 2 inches, 190 pounds, 7.81/60, Strong, athletic player with a huge upside. Fastball is 76-77 mph with some sink from a ¾ slot, slider is 69 mph. He hits from a open stance with a short stride and has a fast bat.

Justin Hensley, 1B/3B, Brebeuf HS, 2017: 6 foot 1 inch, 187 pounds, 7.54/60, Strong  and athletic player with good hands at 3b, short arm thrower with a high ¾ slot (73 mph). Hits from a balanced stance with a short stride and a slight top hand wrap.

Kaleb Huxford, RHP, Rockville HS, 2016: 6 foot 3 inches, 160 pounds, 7.12/60, Fastball is 80-82 with late sink and consistently in the strike zone, Pitches from  a lower ¾ slot with quick arm action and easy effort. He has the ability to move his arm slot around and create deception. Slider is serviceable at 69-71

Kyle Stuckey, C/OF, Princeton HS, 2016: 5 foot 9 inches, 170 pounds, 7.51/60, 2.19-2.34 pop time,  Athletic catcher with average hands and fluid feet with a clean transfer. Hits from a balanced stance with a short stride keep s the bat on a level path to contact.

Nicholas Schnell, OF/SS, Roncalli HS, 2018: 5 foot 11 inches, 140 pounds, 7.12/60, Tall, thin, athletic player that throws 80 mph from the outfield with a long ¾ arm slot. All his throws were on target with average carry. Aggressive fielder with average hands and fluid feet and a solid ball transfer. At the plate he drives the ball to all fields from an open stance with a short stride and good extension through contact. Very projectable.

Zach Britton, C/MIF, Batesville HS, 2017: 6 foot, 165 pounds, 7.19/60, 2.01-2.13 pop times,  Athletic and strong catcher that works hard behind the plate. Throws 76 mph to second base, always on target with average carry. Hits from a balanced stance with a short stride and fast bat speed. Has one of the purest swings of the class with easy pull-side power  Definite follow in the 2017 class.
