The annual Underclass Trials was held this past Saturday May 18 at St. Thomas Aquinas high school in Hammond, LA. The event saw 60+ underclass prospects from across state of Louisiana.

We begin our instant analysis from Saturday’s event today, taking a look at some top statistical performers. We measured six separate categories and we’ll detail the leaders in each category below.

Philip Simmons (Thibodeaux, 2021) turned in the top 60-yard dash time of the day, crossing the lasers in 6.82 seconds. Ty Watson (Parkview Baptist, 2021), Brody Knapps (Central (BR), 2021) and Philip Hines (St. Michael, 2022) were the other three players to finish under 7-seconds flat, with times of 6.86-seconds, 6.96-seconds, and 6.97-seconds, respectively.

Alabama recruit, Kade Woods (Ouachita Christian, 2022) not only had one of the best rounds of batting practice on Saturday, but the two-way standout also showed electric stuff on the mound, running his fastball up to an event best, 89 mph. Two-way standouts, Kyle Walker (Rummel, 2021) and Nickolas Monistere (Northwest Rankin (MS), 2022) also showed good stuff on the mound, running their fastballs up to 87 mph and 86 mph, respectively. While hulking 6-foot-7, 245-pound right-handed pitcher, Brock Van Hoy (Benton, 2021) ran his fastball up to 86 mph with explosive life through the zone. 

Cameron Trosclair (South Terrebonne, 2021) led the exit velocity leaderboard at 93 mph from a tee, while also putting on an impressive power display during batting practice, as he launched balls out of the park with ease. Chandler Easterling (Franklin Parish, 2021), Brody Knapps (Central(BR), 2021) and Zackarie Casebonne (Jesuit, 2021) showed high level bat speed, posting 90+ mph exit velocities.

Bailyn Sorensen (Riverfield, 2021) was one of the standouts during batting practice, showing elite bat speed with strength at contact and an exit velocity of 88 mph, while also topping the leaderboard with an event best 86 mph infield velocity.

Hunter Ponson (Parkview Baptist, 2021), and Jacob Cabeceiras (Rummel, 2021) also put together outstanding rounds during batting practice, and showed savvy defensive abilities while tying Sorensen for first in IF velocity at 86 mph. 

Ashton Fuselier (Barbe, 2022) topped the leaderboard with an event best 87 mph OF velo, while also topping the leaderboard with an event best 1.97-second pop time. Ouachita Christian teammates, Kade Woods (2022) and Hunter Herring (2021) tied for second with outfield positional velocities of 86 mph.

Fellow Barbe teammate of Fuselier, Andrew Glass (2022) also showed off high-level catch and throw skills, tying Payton Cooper (Dutchtown, 2021) and Brayden Kuriger (St. Amant, 2022) for second with a pop time of 1.98-seconds, with Kuriger topping the leaderboard with an event best 79 mph catcher velocity.
