Unsigned Senior Spotlight: Hayden Lindsey

By: Zac Bottoms
Arkansas Scouting Director

Hayden Lindsey is a 5-foot-10 170-pound, utility player form Lakeside High School in Hot Springs. He will see time, in centerfield, middle infield and on the mound for the Rams in the 2015 season. Lindsey is expected to be their weekly rotation on the mound and play a variety of positions, while hitting lead off offensively.
As a junior he hit .356 with an OPS of .786 driving 10 runs with 2 2B. On the mound he pitched 21.2 innings with a 3.23 ERA, 16K, 12 BB and a win loss record of 2-1 with 2 saves. Lindsey is an athletic gap to gap hitter that has the ability to hit the ball consistently to the opposite field. He adds an extra dimension with his ability to steal bases. He would benefit from a more aggressive approach and firing his lower half on a consistent basis, however he is a good contact hitter with the ability to become a player who hits double consistently. On the mound Lindsey competes with a low to mid 80’s fastball. He compliments that with a curveball thrown for strikes in any count and a circle change that is a work in progress. He has good command of both his fastball and curveball, and understands how to compete in all situations.
With all players coaches recruit, a player’s make up is highly scrutinized. Fortunately for Lindsey this is not an issue. Here is what Lakeside head coach Jay Darr had to say about Hayden,” Hayden is a good kid that has worked hard to improve all facets of his game. He is one of those kids that every coach loves to coach. On the field his versatility gives any coach a lot of flexibility to move him around and give your team the best opportunity to win.” Academically he is a NCAA qualifier with a 23 ACT.
