Unsigned Senior Spotlight: Jake Wright (Delaware HS)

Jake Wright, RHP/OF, Delaware HS

After sustaining a broken leg in the fall of 2011 playing football, Delaware senior Jake Wright seems to be healthy and ready for a strong spring on the mound.

Days after being cleared by the doctor, Wright chose to attend PBR’s Unsigned Senior Showcase.

“Overall, I was pleased with my performance (with the exception of my running speed) and I feel like it definitely helped me prepare for the upcoming season.”

Wright felt that the showcase was very helpful with his recruiting process.   “I did receive many phone calls and emails as a result of the PBR events. The events also gave me more exposure to the coaches I had already been in contact with.”

Check out what PBR said about Jake:

2/5/12 Solid, muscular prospect with average height. Registered a 5.31 40-yard dash. Potential two-way prospect at the next level. In the outfield, he plays through the baseball and uses a quick transfer as he reaches a top velocity of 84 mph. Likely projects as a corner outfielder. At the plate, the left-handed hitter uses a slightly open stance with a smooth, easy load. He incorporates a strong lower half with quick bat speed. He is a line drive hitter with gap-to-gap potential. On the mound, the right-handed pitcher uses quick arm speed through an over the top arm slot. His fastball sits 81-85 mph. His curveball shows gradual 12/6 break and sits at 65-68 mph. His changeup needs additional development. He throws it near fastball arm speed, but it is straight and sits at 77-78 mph.

Last spring on the mound, Jake was 5-0 with a 3.76 ERA in 35 IP.

With a 3.93 GPA, Wright says: “I am currently in talks with Walsh University, Mount Union, and I am looking at the University of Dayton. I am hoping to make a final decision by May at the latest.”

When making his decision, Jake states, "I would like to play at the highest level of baseball as I am capable. I am currently undecided on my major so baseball is the only field in which I can compare schools at this point in my search.”
