Unsigned Senior Spotlight: Ethan Gasbarro

By Sean Duncan
Executive Director

From what we saw at the Prep Baseball Report Unsigned Senior Showcase on Oct. 14, Ethan Gasbarro looks to be one of the most versatile prospects in Illinois’ deep 2013 class. The 6-foot, 155-pound athlete from Glenbard South HS showed raw athleticism and arm strength from everywhere on the field.

In the outfield, Gasbarro impressed with his live arm that topped at 92 mph. He moves aggressively to the ball and showed significant carry on his throws. From shortstop, his arm again opened eyes, as he was clocked at 86 mph across the diamond. Gasbarro also impressed by running a 6.97 60. The right-handed hitter also exhibited extremely quick hands and barrel whip through the zone at the plate.

On the mound, Gasbarro throws from a ¾ arm slot that produced sink in the zone. He controlled that sink well at 85-86 mph. (Note: he was sitting 85-86 after throwing from the outfield, third base and shortstop.) His breaking ball showed some sweeping actions at 70-71 mph. He showed the ability to throw his breaking ball for strikes with good arm speed. His changeup exhibited sink and again threw it for strikes at 73-75 mph.

Gasbarro has been a standout on varsity since his sophomore year at Glenbard South. His older brother, Mitch, a 2012 graduate, is playing at Eastern Illinois University.
