Unsigned Senior Spotlight: RHP/1B Brandon Downey (Lutheran South)

Brandon Downey (Lutheran South) is a 6-foot-4, 200-pound RHP/1B and currently ranked #49 in Missouri.  Downey has a smooth, relaxed delivery and has command of the strike zone. His fastball is 83-85 mph, and Downey’s breaking ball is 67-69 with near fastball arm speed. He also throws a 68-71 mph change up that has some arm side movementHe led Lutheran South to a 19-13 record and a district championship last season.  We had a chance to talk with Downey about the upcoming season and college opportunities.

PBR: What schools have expressed interest in you?

Downey:  I have received interest from Murray State, Missouri S&T, Newman, Missouri State, and Maryville

PBR: Have you taken any visits, or have any visits scheduled in the near future? If so, what schools, and how recently?

Downey:  I went to Missouri State in July, and Murray State in August.  I plan on going to Missouri S&T and Maryville in the near future.

PBR: Are you looking for anything in particular in a school? (Example: high academics, certain academic program, local, etc.)

Downey: I plan on entering an Accounting/Sports Management program.

PBR: How did you do your junior year? What were your high school statistics? And how did your team do?

Last season, i threw 37.2 innings with a 2.23 ERA.  I was 3-3 with 32 strikeouts. 

PBR: What are you goals for your senior season?

Downey: Success to prepare me for the next level of college ball.

PBR: What travel team do you play for? Are you playing fall ball with a team?

 Downey: I play for Rawling's Prospects- Oliff

PBR: Do you play any other sports?

Downey:  Yes. I play Basketball also.

PBR: What are your ACT and GPA?

Downey: I have 26 on my ACT and 3.0 GPA
