Updated & Expanded 2020 Player Rankings

Eddie Tisdale
Scouting Director - South Carolina

During the spring/summer season we had the opportunity to learn much more about the players who are now in the senior class and make up the present draft class. There have been many players who have made commitments to play college baseball, many players who have seen their stock rise and some that have slipped in the rankings.

Over the last 12 months our team of scouts has covered over 300 high school and showcase games, in addition to attending scout days, private workouts and holding our own PBR showcases giving us ample opportunity to see players from across the state. The evaluation process is ALWAYS ongoing and the "big board" is updated almost daily behind the scenes. After scouting and evaluating these players closely for well over a year, we feel this represents the most comprehensive set of player rankings for the 2020 class in the state of South Carolina.

In addition to the evaluations of players, our scouts, both those in South Carolina and Nationally, have also had multiple discussions with each other to review their lists and make necessary adjustments based on what we've seen throughout our coverage area.

Without further ado, we present the updated Class of 2020 player rankings.

THE TOP 5

- Alex Urban takes over the top spot with what continually proves to be the best raw power that grades out at the top of the class. He is an above average defender who's mixture of speed and power make for an elite combination. Urban is a Clemson recruit.

- Caden Grice comes in at #2. His 6'6", 220 lb frame is uber projectable and gives him one of the highest upsides in the class. A skilled two way player, Grice could see time on the mound as well as at the plate in college, if he makes it there. Grice is a Clemson recruit.

- Mikey Tepper has flown up the board after a strong high school campaign and summer season that saw his FB move up into the mid 90's. In addition to the added velocity, Tepper still has that signature breaking ball that is the best in this class. Tepper is a Mississippi State recruit.

- Tomas Frick is #4 in the latest ranking. The top 2020 back stop in the class has a cannon. An above average defender and solid bat place him safely inside the top 500 nationally. Frick is a North Carolina recruit.

- Jalen Vazquez continues his upward  ascension jumping to #5 in the state rankings as well as continuing up the national rankings. The wiry frame and elite athletic ability in the middle infield will have some organizations on notice when the spring rolls around. Vazquez is a South Carolina recruit.

PLAYERS ON THE RISE

- BJ Williams the 6'4" RHP has seen the FB rise from a mid 80's offering to a firm low 90's bolt. The breaking ball has also turned into a low 70's hammer. There is definitely more in the tank and if the stuff continues to get better and he can show scouts that he has improved his control, look for the arrow to continue trending up. Williams is an Eastern Kentucky recruit.

- Reese Lumpkin was impressive at the Pre Season All State event in January. He continued to improve throughout the spring ultimately seeing the FB touch 90. With good pitchablity and a durable frame Lumpkin should continue to rise as we get closer to the spring. Lumpkin is a Winthrop recruit.

NEWCOMER TO KNOW

- Cameron Leary is a new face in a new place. The LH outfielder put down a 6.71 sixty time in addition to a 90 mph exit velocity (tee) at the PBR New York Call to the Hall showcase. The lean 6'0" frame has advanced athleticism and will continue to trend up as he adds strength. Originally from Bethpage, NY Leary will complete his SR year at P27 Academy. Leary is a Boston College recruit.

5 Under the Radar

- Reed Garland was up to 88 at the Summer Kickoff ID and later up to 89 at a scout day toward the end of the summer. Developing pitch ability and a quick arm give him a chance to be a late addition and make someone look very good.

- William Anderson was at his best at the NC/SC Border Battle throwing 2 scoreless innings. Mixed 3 pitches for strikes and rode the FB up to 84 commanding the lower half of the zone. Should have a chance to be one of the top arms this year on a talented Bishop England team.

- TreShaun Prupis impressed the guys at LakePoint this summer participating in multiple PBR tournaments during the summer circuit. Showed off the impressive raw power and was an extra base threat each time he stepped to the plate.

- Jackson Hoshour lengthy CF with a wiry frame. Good straight line runner with above avg instincts in CF and the ability to go get it. Showed well in showcase setting, also a good look in game with competitive energy and high motor.

- Chase Dougherty put together a strong high school season. His summer circuit was also impressive, showcasing well at the NC/SC Border Battle he put up a 91 mph exit velocity to go along with a good round of BP and an 81 mph OF velocity.
