Today we make our final update of the year to the class of 2017 rankings. We begin with you first look into the rankings with a sneak peek at the top 20.

There has been some shifting in the rankings and our first stop is at the top with a new No. 1 player in the 2017 class in RHP/OF Harold Cortijo of Riverdale Baptist. Cortijo first jumped onto our scene at the MSABC Futures Game in June and continued to climb with impressive performances over the summer playing with the Marrucci Stars. Cortijo shows two way ability with his speed an athleticism as an outfielder, but his stock has grown the most on the mound. Cortijo throws from a lower ¾ arm slot with a free arm action and life out of hand. His velocity has made jumps through the summer into the fall with our first view on him on the mound he was up to 89 at MSABC, then our PBR Florida staff ran into him over the summer and saw the talented righty up to 92. Finally Cortijo made his final jump this fall in Jupiter showing a 93 mph fastball and even touching 94 mph on a few radars. This paired with his still growing frame that should continue to fill out have earned his spot at the top of the class.

No. 3 Randy Bednar continued to have a strong summer, and when we ran across him at the South Atlantic Border Battle in North Carolina, he again showed his athleticism, speed, and arm strength paired with an aggressive swing at the plate. That swing was evident in a laser home run he drove in the game to left field.

Moving up two spots is Brandon Dorsey of Riverdale Baptist. Dorsey again showed why he has been one of the top hitters in the state this summer with an impressive showing at the aforementioned South Atlantic Border Battle and his line drive ability to all fields and power to the pull side.

Up ten spots to No. 11 is Liberty commit Brady Stamper of Appoquinimink in Delaware. Stamper has been up to 88 on the mound with a lanky 6-foot-5 frame and still has a good amount of growing to do.

Another bigger riser into the top twenty is C Garrett Matheny of Calvert Hall, who also has moved up ten spots from No. 26 to No. 16.

For now take your first look into the Top 20 and see our full rankings when we release the full 2017 rankings tomorrow.
