Updated Maryland 2019 Rankings: Risers

Last Thursday we updated Maryland class of 2019 rankings and added over 30 new faces as the rankings expanded to over 150 in the 2019 class. Today we take a look at some of the newest faces that have entered the rankings who we have seen over the course of the past two months since our last update.

Now lets take a look at some of the risers in our recent update to the rankings.

 

2019 RANKINGS: RISERS

 

Tyler Blittersdorf C / OF / John Carroll, MD / 2019

Solid body type and 5-foot-10, 195 pound frame. Hits from a balanced, athletic stance at the plate. Short, smooth, rock-back load and high leg kick for rhythm and timing. Explosive lower half and stays behind the ball well. Quick hands and fast bat speed. Compact, short, slightly uphill swing path with good extension past contact. Gap-to-gap type hitter with present pull-side power. Took two impressive rounds of BP. Quiet body behind the plate and sticks it. Replaces feet well and showed quick, clean exchanges. Throws with short arm action from a high three-quarter slot at 74 mph. Put five throws on the money at second base with pop times ranging from 2.00 - 2.13. Plays through the ball in the outfield with a clean exchange. Short arm action throwing from a high three-quarter slot at 79 mph. Same at third base. Plays through the ball and showed a quick, clean exchange. Throws with short arm action from a high three-quarter slot at 75 mph. Ran a 4.63 home-to-first time. Controlled side-step wind-up and smooth rhythmic load into a tall balance point. Slight down to out lower half and shorter arm action throwing from a high three-quarters slot. Lands square and in-line with home plate in a strong athletic finish. Fastball sat 77-80 mph touching 82 mph. Curveball was 63-65 with 11/5 shape and slider showed shorter 10/4 shape at 70-71 mph. Change-up had some fade at 72-74 mph.

 

 

 

 

Justin Caesar SS / 2B / Archbishop Spalding, MD / 2019

PBR Future Games 8/3/17

Compact frame with qucik twitch at 5-foot-5, 140-pounds. Ran a 6.97 60-yard dash, but that does not do justice to his first step quickness in the middle. Make the field smaller. Hits from a balanced set up at the plate. slightly sinks into lower half and rock back load to hitting position. Aggressive swing at the plate, short path with bat speed and shows surprising pop. Aggressiveness gets him out of balance at times. Exit Velocity of 86 mph. Advanced defender. Footwork, hands, release are hard to find better. Arm strength of 87 mph across the diamond.

 

 

 

 

Mason Fluharty LHP / 1B / Cape Henlopen (DE), MD / 2019

MD Scout Blog 5/11/18

Fluharty came in relief of Erickson in the Riverdale Baptist game. Left-hander throwing from a three quarter slightly lower slot. Quick, compact, controlled delivery with high leg kick into a hip load and a bit of drop n drive. Longer arm action with quick arm speed pitching with regular effort. Nice backside involvement though does have some of finish going towards third base side. the Fastball showed both cut action and run action at times on the pitch. Fastball touched 88 mph, more 85-87. Ball had better action down in the zone at 85-86. Breaking ball has a nice 1/7 action on the pitch and show potentials for the pitch. Threw a change or cut a few fast balls at 79 mph.

 

 

 

 

Garrett Mcilhenney OF / Calvert Hall, MD / 2019

MD Unsigned Senior Games 8/7/18

ompact, athletic body type and 5-foot-6, 155 pound frame. Hits from a balanced, athletic, square stance at the plate. Smooth back load and glides into front side attacking the baseball with intent. Explosive lower half, very quick hands, and fast bat speed. Short, compact stroke with a slightly uphill swing path. Exit velo was 84 mph. Stays on the ball well and showed nice extension through contact. Went 1-for-1 at the plate with two walks during the game. Super athletic and plays through the ball in the outfield with fluid footwork and a quick, clean exchange. Can really go get it in the outfield and ran a quick 6.81 60-yard dash.Throws with long arm action from a high three-quarter slot at 78 mph.

 

 

 

 

Zach Powers RHP / Archbishop Spalding, MD / 2019

MD Top Prospect Games 6.19.18

Long, lanky body type and projectable 6-foot-4, 180 pound frame. Slow tempo side step wind-up and high leg kick to balance. Clean separation and some lower half involvement. Creates quick arm speed through release. Long, loose arm actions throwing from a low three-quarters slot with light effort. Smooth rhythm throughout delivery. Lands square with an athletic finish. Fastball showed run and was up to 84 mph. Tight slider at 73 mph and curveball with 11/5 shape and sharp break at 68-71 mph. Changeup was 64-65 mph with some late dive.

 

 

 

 

Dylan Young RHP / SS / Chesapeake (AA), MD / 2019

MD Top Prospect Games 6.19.18

Athletic, compact body type. 5-foot-9, 150 pound frame. Hits from an athletic, balanced, square stance. Smooth rock back load with a small leg kick. Creates good separation and gets some lower half involvement finishing high. Quick hands and fast bat speed with an exit velo of 86 mph. Fluid rhythm at the plate with a slight uphill swing path. Line drive type hitter with occasional pop. Showed fluid actions in the infield. Plays through the ball with soft hands and a quick, clean exchange. Throws with shorter arm actions from a low three-quarters arm slot at 82 mph. Ran a 4.22 home-to-first. Slow tempo, controlled side step wind-up to balance point. Clean, loose arm actions and nice lower half involvement. Creates strong back side drive and stays smooth through delivery. Quick, whippy arm speed throwing from a high three-quarters slot with regular effort. Lands square and finishes in an athletic position. Fastball was up to 82 mph. Big 12/6 shape breaking ball with later sharp action at 69-71 mph. Changeup sat 73-74 mph with slight sink.
