With winter events under our belts and the high school season in full swing, it’s time to update and expand the Class of 2018 rankings. The rankings now include the top 60 players, but given that we are talking about sophomores, these rankings will continue to evolve and change as we continue to see more players from the class while others make improvements in their game.

Trae Harmon (RHP/3B, Somerset HS) remains at the top of the class, a spot he has occupied since we first released the rankings. The 6-foot-3, 225-pound RHP/3B runs his fastball up to 89 mph. Harmon can also swing the bat, showing good power and bat speed at the plate.

Brennan LaBarbera (RHP/1B, South Oldham HS) makes a big jump to occupy the No. 2 spot. The highly-projectable 6-foot-3, 165-pound RHP made a jump in velocity at the Preseason All-State Showcase with an 84-86 mph fastball to go along with a sharp 72-73 mph curveball and improved 75-78 mph changeup.

Tyler Grigalis (C, Lexington Catholic HS) moves up a few spots to check in at No. 3. Left-handed hitting catchers are always in demand, and Grigalis has no shortage of tools to be a highly-coveted prospect. He has good power at the plate to go along with solid defensive abilities and arm strength.

Highest New Entrant

Drew Rom (LHP, Highlands HS) emerged as one of the top lefties in the class at the Preseason All-State Showcase. The 6-foot-1, 163-pounder’s fastball topped at 84 mph, and he showed the ability to throws his harder 70-74 mph curveball with sharp 1/7 action for strikes.
