This spring we take a different approach to the unveiling of our Preseason Power25 teams across the commonwealth/DC. Instead of one full release, we will be doing a countdown starting today and running all the way to the beginning of the high school season. Over the course of the next 2.5 weeks, we will be counting down our preseason top 25.

Outlook

The defending Class 5 Region A champs return almost their entire roster from 2018 and look primed to make another run in 2019.

Back again and leading the charge for the Monarchs on the mound is Ahmaad Goldson and Phil Forbes V. Offensively, both players led the team in batting average in 2018 and RBI and will once again a pace the offesive attack, as well as the mound attack, which we will get to later. Also returning to the offense include three returners that hit over .300 in Kade and Kody Abrisz, and Anthony Hall. Brendan Rodgers, Stephen Cook and Dawson Guzik (pictured, right) are three players to watch as well who should see their role expand more in 2019 as they all had very nice seasons in part-time roles at the plate.  Rodgers and Guzik hit over .360 on the season, while Cook hit just under .300 on the year.  All three should see their role increase on the offensive end in 2019.

On the mound, Menchville will again be led by a three headed monster in Goldson, Forbes and Rodgers.  All three had a majority of the innings last year on the mound and that should happen once again. Goldson had the majority of the innings, and led the team in strikeouts. If he can lower his walk total on the year you could see a nice improvement on his sub 3.00 ERA from last season. They will need to find an arm to replace the loss of Robert Avery in their back end. Talented 2020 Tyler Davis (VCU) is on campus however it is still uncertain whether he will play this year due to his transfer. If he would be deemed eligible, this could make for a very deep and imposing staff for 2019. Either way, the Monarchs are going to be a top team this 2019 season and one that should contend in Class 5 yet again in 2019. Thus they get the nod from us as our first team in the top ten from the Power25.
