Region 5C Semifinals

Woodgrove 7, Briar Woods 3
Woodgrove jumped out with 3 in the first and Briar Woods fought back to tie it before the Wolverines ultimately pulled the game out. Nathan Favereaux (Patrick Henry CC) was 2-4 with 2 2Bs, Tony Monastero (VA Wesleyan) was 2-4 with an RBI, Michael Thomas was 2-4 with a 2B, and JD Robinson was 1-3 with a 2B and 3 RBIs. Nicholas Hamm was 2-2 with an RBI and Jon Torre (Washington & Lee) was 1-3 with a 2B and a BB for Briar Woods.

Riverside 4, No. 1 Freedom (South Riding) 2
Senior Wyatt Shenkman (East Carolina) went 6 IP, 2 R, 4 H, 10 K in the win and Cavan McMeans had a home run. Cal Henderson was 2-3 with an RBI for Freedom.

Region 6A Quarterfinals

No. 20 Thomas Dale 3, Kellam 0
Junior Ethan Hamill threw a 3-hit shutout, striking out 9 and walking none. Harrison Barnes was strong in the loss for Kellam, going the distance and allowing just 5 hits while striking out 2 and walking 2.

The Chargers put up 9 in the first inning and cruised after that. Owen Pierce went 5 IP, 2 R, 2 H, 13 K, 1 BB while also going 1-2 and the plate with a HR and 3 RBIs. Marcus Dux (Virginia Tech) had a HR and 5 RBIs and Scott Hodinko was 2-3. Jake Guffey was 1-2 with a HR for W&L.

 

Region 5A Quarterfinals

No. 13 Hickory 3, Gloucester 1
Cooper Newell (Liberty) struck out 7 in 5 IP, allowing 1 R on 5 H and 2 BB to pick up the win. Brandon Walsh threw 2 innings of perfect relief to earn the save. Sophomore Austin Jones was 1-2 with a 2B, an RBI, and 2 BB. For Gloucester, Bailey Hudgins was solid, going 7 IP, 3 R, 5 H, 4 K, 2 BB. Hunter Sturgeon was also 1-2 with a 2B and a BB.

No. 5 Frank Cox 5, No. 12 Maury 4
Michael Irby (East Carolina) was dominant early, striking out 7 in 3.1 scoreless innings of 1-hit ball. John Bastiaans (VA Wesleyan) had 2 RBIs and a 2B. Tre Keels (Miami) was 3-4 and AJ Phillips had a HR and 2 RBIs in the loss.

No. 22 Nansemond River 6, Bethel 0
Gavin Gregory (Radford) went 6 IP and allowed just 3 H while striking out 3 and also going 1-3 with an RBI in the win. Ayden Stuffel was 3-4 and Cam Pittman (Radford) and Clay Grady (Virginia Tech) each had two hits for the Warriors. Nick Seidnitzer was 2-3 for Bethel and Micah Wetzler tossed 4.2 innings of scoreless 2-hit ball in relief.
