Kimberly 3, Oshkosh West 0

Kimberly blanked Oshkosh West in the Sectional Semi-Final play 3-0 behind a superb outing from senior Danny VandenBoom. VandenBoom scattered six hits, three walks and struck out three over six shutout innings. John Nett nailed down the final three outs for the save.

Offensively, Connor Chitko led the way going 2-for-3 with a triple and a pair of RBI, driving in Nett both times after singles. Along with Nett’s two hit day he scored twice. Zach Lechnir added two hits from the leadoff spot for the Papermakers as well.

Jordan Brewer and Carter Footit both had two hits for Oshkosh West in the loss.

Oshkosh North 16, Hortonville 4 (6 innings)

In the second Sectional Semi-Final, Oshkosh North lit up the scoreboard with 16 runs, disposing of Hortonville in six innings.

Hortonville had a 4-2 lead in the fifth inning when the Spartans erupted for eight runs. They followed up their eight run inning with six more in the sixth to put the game out of reach.

Kyle Waller, Nathaniel Noe and Adam Penzenstadler all led the offense with three hits. Waller and Penzenstadler both drove in three runs.

Waller also picked up the win in relief working 3.1 innings of three hit baseball.

Oshkosh North 3, Kimberly 8

Oshkosh North’s bats looked like they would pick up right where they left off from their 16 run outburst in the semi’s. The Spartans scored twice in their first at-bats giving them an early two run cushion. Drew Ashley and Dylan Krumrei both drove in runs with RBI hits in the inning. But Kimberly starter Davis Matz would settle in after that.

Matz allowed just three hits over the next four innings to keep the Spartans in check and passing it over to Josh Nett who closed out his second game of the day.

Kimberly overcame the two-run deficit in the second. The Papermakers manufactured four runs in the inning. Drew Lechnir capped the scoring with a two-out RBI single.

Drew Johnson paced the Kimberly offense with three hits, an RBI and a run scored. Ryan Carney also added three hits and scored twice.

Dylan Krumrei was an offensive bright spot for the Spartans, the sophomore infielder went 3-for-4 with three doubles and an RBI. Brett Ellestad chipped in three singles.

The win sends the Papermakers to Appleton for the fourth straight year. Two of the previous three Kimberly has lost in the title game.
