Prep Baseball Report

Weekend Recap: June 12-14

Brett Harrison
Nevada Scouting Director

Today, we recap the standout performances of a handful of Nevada prospects made the trip to Arizona this past weekend for their first tournament back from the Covid-19 break. Baseball has yet to fully open up in Nevada and we are seeing a wave of players heading to surrounding states every weekend to get back into the action. This weekend featured a impressive performances all over the field including a quality outing on the mound by Christian Dijkman, Joey Randazzo making loud contact, Jacob Walsh racking five hits in his first two games, a no-doubt blast by Garrett Cutting and the potential top incoming freshman, Ty Southesine, stealing home after lacing a triple to right-center field. The present talent in our high school classes is immense, but the next generation of players to come through are announcing their presence with authority.

Christian Dijkman

A trim Christian Dijkman made his summer debut yesterday for Bases Loaded Elite down in Arizona, striking out 10 batters over his 5.2 innings of work. A slimmed down version of himself (50 pounds slimmer to be exact) looks to have gained even more confidence than he previously possessed and could see some velocity jumps coming in the near future. A testament to his work ethic, Dijkman has taken full advantage of the down time, committing to improving his physical stature and it seems to already be paying off. As he heads into his senior season for the Crusaders, this is a prospect that could make some big jumps, developing more feel for each of his pitches and potential significant increases in velocity.

Joey Randazzo

The Bishop Gorman product made loud contact throughout the weekend in his first event back with Bases Loaded Elite. The report back from BLE Head Coach, Craig Colletti, included a more polish receiver and gained confidence in his  behind the plate. His smooth left-handed stroke has always been his top tool and the defensive side coming around could push Randazzo into a different category of prospect. We are looking forward to having him out at the Underclass Top Prospect Games as well as having him represent Team Nevada at the Future Games later this summer.

Jacob Walsh

The top uncommitted prospect in the state may be one of the most sought after talents still available in the 2021 Class. PBR National Crosschecker tweeted,"Walsh has been making a big impact in Nevada for years now. Really liked whims an underclassman and now as one of the top uncommitted '21s in the country. Real power potential & some upside on the mound. #PBRDraft21." I won't be surprised if we hear a big name school land the #2 ranked 2021 prospect, especially after his performance this past weekend that saw him go five for his first seven at bats, including three doubles.

Garrett Cutting

The #1 ranked 2021, Garrett Cutting, got his weekend started off with a no-doubt blast to left field, verifying the work he has continued to put in during the Covid-19 break. The Oregon commit is known for his abilities at the plate and at 5-foot-11, 170 pound, he already shows impressive power potential. Cutting is a high ceiling prospect that has already proved himself as a legit prospect, and continues to show well at each event he attends. We are looking forward to get his updated data with our TrackMan and Blast Motion sensors at the upcoming Upperclass Top Prospect Games.

Ty Southisene

An early commit to San Diego State, Southisene has already proven himself to be on of the top 2024 prospects not only in Nevada, but in the West. His silky actions in the field paired with a consistent bat at the plate that flashes power potential to both gaps despite his 5-foot-7, 140 pound frame. This premier shortstop and future Basic Academy Wolf, is a name you can count on hearing quite a bit in the coming years and we are looking forward to having him out with us at the Rising Stars event next week.

2024-2025 RISING STARS SHOWCASE

The PBR Nevada Rising Stars Showcase is coming Wednesday, June 24th to Desert Oasis High School. The event is open to Class of 2024 & 2025 Prospects.

This event will have four main functions. For most participants, this will be their first showcase event - an initial step toward achieving a player’s baseball goals. Part of this event is educational. There will be a lecture about what scouts look for, how to comport themselves, what to expect in the recruiting process, and the overall landscape of playing at the next level. The second function of this event will be for players to create baseline numbers for themselves to improve. The third reason for this event is for PBR to have an in-depth look at the best young players and the future of the state.  The fourth function of the event is to identify players to represent Nevada at the PBR Junior Future Games held at LakePoint in Cartersville, GA.

PBR Junior Future Games Selection Process

The Junior Future Games Trials will be used to identify players to represent Nevada at the 2020 PBR Junior Future Games at LakePoint. The PBR Junior Future Games is national event that will take place July 29 - August 2 at LakePoint in Emerson, Georgia. The event will run in accordance with the PBR Future Games, which attracts over 300 college coaches from across the country.

The 2020 Junior Future Games will feature the best 2024 & 2025 prospects in the country. Players will participate in a pro-style workout and game-play during the duration of the event.
