West TN Prospect Games: Team White Outfielders

The West Tennessee Prospect Games took place on August 16 at USA Baseball Stadium and afforded close to 50 players from around the state to showcase their abilities in a combination showcase/game play event. The following is a look at the outfielders who participated for Team White at the event. This is position player analysis only. Those position players who also pitched at the event will have their pitching performance featured in a subsequent article.

Myles Montgomery, 2016, Germantown, OF
The 6 foot 3, 175- pound prospect posted a 6.85 60 time and had a 79 mph position velocity from the outfield. Defensively, Montgomery has short arm action, slower exchange, average arm strength, fluid footwork, and natural instincts in the outfield. Offensively, Montgomery has fast bat speed from the right side and had an 82 mph exit velocity off the tee. Hits from a balanced setup, has a slight leg kick, good balance, level path, shows swagger at the plate, and had a great round of BP. Montgomery went 0-for-2 during game play having to leave after game one of the event.

Baylor Steelman, 2016, Lavergne, OF
The 5 foot 8, 140- pound prospect has grown an inch and added 10 pounds to frame since last fall, posted a 7.15 60 time and had an 86 mph position velocity from the outfield. Defensively Steelman has shorter arm action, good arm strength, accuracy, soft hands, quick exchange, and fluid footwork with athletic actions. Offensively, Steelman shows some bat speed from the right side and had an 81 mph exit velocity off the tee. Hits from a tall and open setup, aggressive stride but maintains balance, aggressive approach, loose hands, is a line drive type hitter with ability to make hard contact to all fields. Steelman went 2-for-5 during game play.

Noah Sharp, 2017, Harding Academy, OF/INF
The 6 foot 1, 170- pound prospect posted a 7.06 60 time and had an 81 mph position velocity across the infield and an 82 mph position velocity from the outfield. Defensively Sharp shows more athletic actions in the outfield, has fluid footwork and plays through the ball well, shows more hesitance in the infield with a short high-3/4 release. Offensively, Sharp has above average bat speed and had an 86 mph exit velocity off the tee. Sharp hits from a balanced setup, lifts heel with minimal stride, rotational type hitter, level path with line drive production. Sharp went 1-for-4 during game play.

Andruw Jones, 2016, Germantown, OF
The 5 foot 7, 185-pound prospect posted a 7.78 60 time and had a 72 mph position velocity from the outfield. Defensively, Jones has long arm action, below average arm strength, slow exchange, plays through the ball well. Offensively, Jones shows average bat speed from the right side and had an 82 mph exit velocity off the tee. Jones hits from a balanced setup, short stride, uses his lower half some, showed an opposite field approach.  Jones went 1-for-5 during game play.
