A total of 24 teams began regional play last week and 12 remain.  During the course of the West Virginia state tournament we will keep you updated in real time with stats, highlights and measurable data. Semifinals

Thursday, May 31 (Class AAA)

4:30 p.m. — No. 1 Hurricane (31-4) vs. No. 4 Martinsburg (24-11)

- PBR staff has arrived in Charleston and are checking into the hotel. We will be heading to the stadium at 3:15. Current temperature is a balmy 87 degrees with a real feel temperature of 93 degrees. Forecast has improved with next chance for rain not coming until 10:00. 

- And just like that game one is in a rain delay. No rain currently in the immediate area, but radar shows weather blowing in. Stay tuned for an update on a new anticipated time for first pitch.

- As of 5:15 pm, still no updates on an anticipated start time. No rain yet, but sky is definitely darkening and there is thunder in the distance. Stay tuned for updates.

- Hurricane & Martinsburg have taken the field to stretch. It appears that first pitch will come around 6:15. Time to play ball!

- One inning complete in the first of two AAA semifinal games this evening. Martinsburg benefits from two walks and an infield error in the top of the inning to score twice. Hurricane answers with a run of their own in the bottom half. Moving to the 2nd inning, Martinsburg 2 - Hurricane 1.

- Hurricane adds a run in the bottom of the 2nd. Morehead State recruit Noah Short now on in relief for the Redskins sitting 85-86. Top of the 3rd inning, Martinsburg 2 - Hurricane 2.

- Martinsburg plates a run in the top of the 3rd & Hurricane answers with 2 of their own to take their first lead of the game. 2019 LHP Jonathan Blackwell, a Coastal Carolina commit, on in relief for the Redskins sitting 86-87 and touching 88 mph. 2019 RHP Ashton Staubs has moved to the mound for Martinsburg sitting 84-85 with a quick arm.

- First scoreless inning of the game in the 4th. Hurricane 2018 center fielder Bo Adkins executes his second push bunt for a hit of the game. Adkins flashes advanced foot speed getting down the line in 3.97 and 4.04 on the two bunts. Hurricane 4 - Martinsburg 3 moving to the top of the 5th inning.

- Hurricane adds a run in the 5th on a double off the wall from 2018 OF Noah Birthisel and a sac fly RBI by Logan McClure. Top of the 6th inning, Hurricane 5 - Martinsburg 3.

- Martinsburg uses an infield error, sac bunt and RBI ground out to cut the lead to one heading to the top of the 7th. Hurricane 5 - Martinsburg 4.

- Martinsburg ties things up with a one out sac fly from Michael Jackson. Hurricane threatens in the bottom of the 7th, but wastes a two out double from Austin Dearing. We are headed to extras tied 5-5.

- Hurricane moves on to Saturday AAA title game with a 6-5 win in 8 innings. Tyler Cox delivers a one out sac fly scoring Chandler Kelley to walk them off. FINAL: Hurricane 6 - Martinsburg 5 (8 innings)

No. 2 St. Albans (28-10) vs. No. 3 Wheeling Park (20-6)

- Estimated start time for game two this evening is 9:45.

- Good pitching match-up in this one. St. Albans LHP Jake Carr, No. 2 in the WV Class of 2019 and a WVU commit, is sitting 86-88 early with a wipeout slider at 75-77 (strikes out side in top of 1st). Wheeling Park RHP Jarrod Jones, No. 34 in the WV Class of 2018 and a Fairmont State recruit, also works a scoreless inning. Moving to the 2nd inning, Wheeling Park 0 - St. Albans 0.

- Jones pitches out of a first and third, one out jam in the bottom of the second with a strike out, caught stealing to end the inning. Moving to the 3rd inning, Wheeling Park 0 - St. Albans 0

- We move to the 4th with both pitchers still in command. Jones has scattered four hits while Wheeling Park is still looking for its first hit of the night.

- Carr's velo has dipped a bit in the middle innings. Now sitting 83-86. 2019 3B Ryan Hummel ends Carr's no-hit bid with a single to start the top of the 5th, but is stranded at second. Moving to the bottom of the 5th inning - Wheeling Park 0 - St. Albans 0

- Jones' night is done after 4.1 scoreless innings. RHP Ben Taylor, No. 13 in the WV Class of 2019, on in relief sitting 84-86. Wheeling Park plates the game's first run on a hit batter, walk, double steal and errant throw on the stolen base attempt. Carr strands a runner at third to end the top of the 6th. Moving to the bottom of the 6th, Wheeling Park 1 - St. Albans 0

- Carr does his part going seven strong innings on 105 pitches allowing just one hit and no earned runs. Last chance for St. Albans. Moving to the bottom of the 7th, Wheeling Park 1 - St. Albans 0

- 2021 catcher Josh Samples comes off the bench for a two out hit, but Taylor shuts the door with a come backer. There will be a new champion in Class AAA this year. FINAL SCORE: Wheeling Park 1, St. Albans 0

Friday, June 1: Session 1 (Class AA)

10 a.m. — No. 1 Bridgeport (26-10) vs. No. 4 James Monroe (17-8)

- Bridgeport looks to win a 4th consecutive AA state crown & has just completed pregame. John Monroe now taking the field. First pitch set for 10:00. Rain in the forecast for much of the day, but skies are currently clear.

- Bridgeport RHP Tim Via, No. 24 in the WV Class of 2019, strands a James Monroe runner at third in the top of the 1st sitting 78-80 with solid feel for an upper 60s slider. Bridgeport jumps on top 1-0 on a single by Cooper Hineman and a two out error. Moving to the top of the 2nd inning, Bridgeport 1 - James Monroe 0

- 2021 LF Cody Moore's two out single gets James Monroe on the board. Bridgeport answers with a two out, two run single by Cooper Hineman in the bottom half. Moving to the 3rd inning, Bridgeport 3 - James Monroe 1

- Both pitchers settling in nicely. Bridgeport threatens in the bottom of the 4th but rally is killed with a fly ball to right and a perfect strike from James Monroe's Brayden Davis to home plate to cut down the runner at home. Moving to the top of the 5th, Bridgeport 3 - James Monroe 1

- James Monroe plates two in the top of the 5th to knot the game at three. 2018 RHP Michael Beker enters in the bottom half for James Monroe with bases loaded and nobody out and works out of the jam with a ground out, strike out and fly ball. Moving to the top of the 6th inning, Bridgeport 3 - James Monroe 3

- 2021 SS Ryan Goff's two out single to center field walk them off. Bridgeport will play for a 4th consecutive Class AA state title tomorrow. FINAL SCORE: Bridgeport 4 - James Monroe 3

No. 2 Wayne (25-4) vs. No. 3 Frankfort (23-5)

- First pitch for game two of the AA semifinals likely to start shortly after 1:00pm.

- Runs going to be hard to come by in this one. Frankfort 2018 RHP Blake Wasson, a Kent State recruit, sitting 87-88 touching 89 mph early with feel for his 73-75 slider. Wayne 2021 LHP Wyatt Milum sitting 84-85 with a solid 73 mph curveball. No score after an inning and a half with Wayne coming to bat. 

- Wayne finding ways to manufacture runs. One hit and two Frankfort errors have added up to a 4-1 lead for Wayne through three innings.

- Ditto for Frankfort. Teams have combined for just three hits yet we move to the 5th all tied up at four.

- Wayne breaks the tie on a two out throwing error and add an insurance run on a single from Zach Perry. Frankfort comes roaring back scoring two runs of their own on two hits and a Wayne error. We have more free baseball, this time in the rain. Frankfort 6 - Wayne 6 heading to the 8th inning.

- No scoring in the 8th. Before the 9th begins the tarp has been pulled. The rain in the forecast has officially arrived. Stay tuned for an anticipated restart time.

- Grounds crew has put in a great deal of effort to get the infield playable. The infield has been tarped again and no announcement has been made on an anticipated restart. Stay tuned.

- Wayne & Frankfort have taken the field to loosen up with steady rain still in the area. Current plans are to complete the current game & then play both Class A semifinals this evening around the rain drops. Hang on to your hats, it could be a very late night.

- After nearly a two hour rain delay, play has resumed in the 9th inning. Wayne got a leadoff single, but nothing more in the top half of the inning. Following a Josh Perry walk to leadoff the bottom half of the inning Jeremiah Milum singled and Wyatt Milum was intentionally walked to load the bases with nobody out. Zach Perry's one out sac fly to right field walks them off. Frankfort advances to the AA final to play Bridgeport tomorrow. FINAL SCORE: Wayne 7 - Frankfort 6

Friday, June 1: Session 2 (Class A)

No. 1 Charleston Catholic (25-10) vs. No. 4 Moorefield (20-9)

- Estimated start time, barring additional rain delays will be 7:35pm with the final game of the day to follow.

- Through two complete we are scoreless and hitless through two innings in the final session of the day. Both pitchers have walked a batter, and worked out of any further damage.

- Moorefield gets on the board first with an RBI single from Lane Ours. Central Catholic coming to bat in the bottom of the 4th trailing 1-0.

- Moorefield adds to their lead as Jake Ours scores on a wild pitch with the bases loaded and two outs in the top of the 5th. Moving to the bottom half Moorefield now leads 2-0.

- Moving to the top of the 6th. Moorefield 2018 RHP Garett Haggerty is putting on a clinic in how to pitch. Through six innings he has allowed just one hit on 65 pitches. Moorefield continues to lead 2-0.

- Haggerty completes the complete game gem with a comebacker to the mound. The senior righty allowed one hit and needed just 78 pitches. Moorefield moves on to the Class A title game with a 2-0 win. FINAL SCORE: Moorefield 2 - Charleston Catholic 0

No. 2 Wheeling Central (23-4) vs. No. 3 Ravenswood (24-9)

- Today's final game will start at approximately 10:15.

- 2018 LHP Doug Clark works around a walk in the top of the first for Wheeling Central with two strikeouts and a pop out. Moving to the bottom of the 1st with no score.

- Wheeling Central gets on the board in bottom of 1st on a one out double from George Cupp & an RBI single from Logan Wells. After one full inning, Wheeling Central 1 - Ravenswood 0

- Ravenswood gets a sac fly from Jake Green in the top of the 2nd to tie the game.

- Pitchers cruising. Nothing doing for either offense in the 3rd and 4th. Moving to the top of the 5th inning, Wheeling Central 1 - Ravenswood 1

Wheeling Central plates 3 runs in the 5th on an RBI single from Logan Wells & a 2 RBI double from Adam Murray to take a 4-1 lead. Ravenswood answers back with 2 runs in the top of the 6th with Chase Swain's RBI triple being the big blow. Moving to the bottom of the 6th inning Wheeling Central leads 4-3.

- Clark sets Ravenswood down in order in the 7th to finish the complete game win. FINAL SCORE: Wheeling Central 4 - Ravenswood 3
