Follow @PBRVirginiaDC

The ball dropping on the end of 2015 not only signifies a new year, but the looming presence of the 2016 high school baseball season in Virginia and DC. With tryouts mere weeks away, we at Prep Baseball Report Virginia/DC wish you warm thoughts as you prepare for the new season. Here are a few things to look forward to from us this spring:

Preseason ID’s

PBR VA/DC will be hosting two Preseason ID camps in February. Both events that were held in February of 2015 were very well-attended and featured a lot of talented players from throughout the Commonwealth.

  • Preseason ID North held on Saturday, February 13 at the brand new Elite Sports Indoor Sports Facility in Manassas. The second event will be the
  • Preseason ID South held on Saturday, February 20 at Virginia Sports Complex in Ruther Glen.

Future Prospects Educational Camps

PBR VA/DC will debut a new camp format in 2016, the Future Prospects Showcase & Educational Camp. These camps are for talented seventh and eighth graders who want to gain exposure while also having their first showcase in a more relaxed environment. Each camp will feature a speaker that will discuss the recruiting process, what college scouts are looking for in a player, and the impact of academics on student-athletes. Information about the events can be found below.

Expanded High School Coverage

2015 marked the first full high school season that Prep Baseball Report Virginia/DC covered. 2016 will see that coverage expand as PBR VA/DC staff will get on the road to more games this spring to see more of the best talent take the field. Players who shine will be featured in our Scout Blog, which can be viewed by the 450+ schools that subscribe to Prep Baseball Report. Starting soon, we will begin posting our team-by-team previews of the high schools in our coverage area, which will lead us up to our first Power 25 of 2016, which will be released in mid-March and then updated every Monday until the end of the public school season in mid-June.

Summer Events

As the high school season winds down, Prep Baseball Report VA/DC will host a series of ID events throughout the state. This summer will also see the Top Prospect Games for the Class of 2018 and the Class of 2019. Players from the Class of 2018 who shine in the Top Prospect Games can earn an invitation to travel to Indianapolis and represent Virginia/DC at the Prep Baseball Report Futures Games in late July, an event that routinely is scouted by over 100 colleges from all over the country.
