Wolverines, Lynx, and Thunderbirds win state championships

3A

The Wolverines scored a run in the bottom of the first and that would be all they needed to defeat the Churchill County Greenwave and claim the NIAA Class 3A State Championship. Truckee and Churchill County had faced each other this season on six previous occasions with the Wolverines getting the best of the Greenwave, 4 games to 2. Fitting these teams would meet yet again for the state title and possibly more appropriate that redemption was on the mind of the Greenwave. The Wolverines did not allow a run over seven innings in route to the state title, winning 1-0.

The Lincoln County Lynx defeated The Meadows School to earn the NIAA class 2A Championship. The Lynx were the PBR Nevada wire to wire #1 and wore that like a badge of honor during the state 2A tournament claiming the title without losing a game. Lincoln County pitchers, McKinley O’Connor and Alex Vincent combined to hold the Mustangs to just one run on five hits, striking out six. The Lynx pounded out nine runs on ten hits, erupting for 6-run sixth inning to separate from the Mustangs, leading to an eventual 9-1 victory.

Indian Springs entered the day needing to defeat the Pahranagat Valley Panthers twice to claim the state title. The Panthers jumped out early scoring four times in the first three innings and taking a 4-1 lead into the fourth. The Panther's, Jesse Jones was 3-4 in the game with a pair of RBI. However, perennial 1A power Indian Springs was not ready to go home. They scored four times in the fifth inning and again in the seventh to defeat the Panthers 6-4. Indian Springs, Ryan Gertz was 3-4 with 3 RBI, while Lucas Vandever, Jordan Flamm and Nathan Miller each had two hits.

The second game was scoreless through 3 innings, when the Panther plated the first run in the top of the 4th only to have Indian Springs answer with 3 runs of their own in the bottom half of the inning. Springs starter, Zack Reimer got into some trouble in the sixth and surrendered two runs. Reimer tosses 5.2 innings surrendering 2 earned runs, giving way to Aaron Avery. Avery finished the game and did not allow a run, securing a 4-3 victory and earning the class 1A State Championship. Pahranagat Valley was led by Stockton Maxwell 2-3 on the day, while Indian Springs, Zackary Williams, Lucas Vandever, and Jordan Flamm each had a pair of hits.
