Columbus North 4 Fishers 3 F/8

Fishers, IN ? Columbus North traveled up to play Fishers on Thursday night and was able to come away with an extra innings victory. The matchup pitted two seniors against each other, right hander Adam Jones for Columbus North and lefty Ant Roach for Fishers. Columbus North got to Roach early starting the game with five consecutive line drive singles to give CN three runs after the top of the 1st. After the first two runners in the inning reach Juniors Hunter McIntosh, CJ Dennis, and Braden Pelley hit RBI singles.

After that the game became a pitching battle with both pitchers continuing to throw zeroes up on the score board. Jones, one of Columbus North?s few seniors, kept Fishers off balance most of the game mixing in his fastball that topped out at 83 mph and his 72 mph change in his five innings of work. Roach, after a rough first inning, would settle down and throw the next six innings allowing only three hits.

Fishers would finally get to Jones in the 5th inning scoring two runs, one on an error. Columbus North would bring in sophomore Daniel Ayres for the 6th inning to close out the last two innings, but Junior Clay Small was able to double in the tying run to knot the game at 3-3. Ayres, LHP (FB 82-84, CH 70-73), would settle down after that and would not allow another hit for the rest of the game. In the top of the 8th with McIntosh on third, after getting walked and advancing on an error and sacrifice bunt, Pelley hit a hard ground ball to the second baseman with the infield in, but McIntosh was able to score on a close play at the plate. Ayres would get a ground ball double play to end the game in the bottom of the 8th to pick up the win for Columbus North.
