Prep Baseball Report

Florida Preseason Swing

Shooter Hunt
Vice President, Scouting

With so many prospects pumping out of the Sunshine State on a regular basis, it has become a yearly On the Hunt tradition to kickoff spring coverage in the state of Florida. Stocked with premium draft talent, future committed impact players, and a slew of uncommitted players waiting to make their mark, this trip routinely yields emphatic statements, revelations, and intriguing follows. Built on the back of the Prep Baseball Florida Preseason Classic, an event that has jump started the spring of future 1st round picks like RHP Carter Stewart (2018), RHP Brennan Malone (2019), Zac Veen (2020), Andy Painter (2021), Elijah Green (2022), Brandon Barriera (2022), Adrian Santana (2023), and Aidan Miller (2023), this early spring trip is the perfect way to start the march to the MLB Draft.

MLB Draft Prospects

+ SS Devin Fitz-Gerald (Stoneman Douglas HS, 2024; NC State commit):
The 2024 class’ No. 49-ranked player did not disappoint in a brief look under the lights at the home of the defending national champion Eagles. Listed at 5-foot-10, 170-pounds, the switch-hitting shortstop appeared closer to 5-foot-11, 180-pounds in uniform with some compact strength displayed throughout an athletic frame. Bouncing around between innings, he showed off advanced glove-to-hand abilities with a quick release on accurate throws that exhibited adequate strength. Although untested in game action, his attentive leadershape traits were semi-similar to those seen a year ago in Arizona from ‘23 SS Roch Cholowsky (now at UCLA). While the profile likely shifts him into a more versatile infield role long-term, the pervading confidence that he carries himself with is tough to bet against.
