Big 12

Big 12 leader Bloomington (19-11; 9-1) continued to roll as the Purple Raiders crushed Decatur MacArthur 12-2. Senior Purple Raider Tyler Dicken led the Raider attack with three hits and three RBI. The Purple Raiders hosted Mattoon on Saturday and will host Normal West on Wednesday and go to Normal West on Thursday. The PBR?s Drake Skleba will be in Normal for all the Big 12 action on Thursday.

 

Normal Community (18-10; 8-2) slipped past Mattoon 3-2 to stay in the hunt in the Big 12. Ironman junior Eric Fight scored the game winner, knocking  Mattoon (17-6; 9-2) into second place in the Big 12. No.15 Normal West (23-6; 8-2) sits in a third-place tie with the Ironmen.

 

Catholic White

St. Ignatius (19-13; 11-8)  defeated Fenwick 6-4 behind senior C Bill Boyle, who had 2-for-3 with an RBI for the Wolfpack.

 

Fox Valley Fox

Grayslake Central (18-8; 13-5) rolled to its seventh straight win as the Rams crushed Johnsburg. Ram junior John Gurchack continued his hot hitting with two doubles and three RBI.

 

Fox Valley Valley

Crystal Lake South (16-8; 12-7) stunned Valley leader McHenry 4-3. McHenry (19-8; 18-3) is even with Huntley (19-5; 14-3) in the loss column.

 

Cary-Grove (18-8; 14-5) defeated Dundee-Crown 9-4 behind Ohio State-bound LHP Matt Panek (5-1).

 

Jackie Robinson North

Clemente (18-5; 14-0) completed its undefeated run in the JR-N by defeating Taft 6-1 behind a 14 K performance from Wildcat hurler Chris Simon (5-2).

 

Jackie Robinson South

Harlan (20-7; 11-3) stunned JR-South champ No. 18 Simeon 6-5 on Calvin Cook?s game-winning single in the top of the seventh. The Falcons were led by Andre Hogan Jr., who had three hits and drove home three Falcon runs. Simeon closes out JR-North play at 12-2 and the Wolverines are 21-3 overall.

 

Upstate 8 River

No. 25 St. Charles East (21-6; 17-2) defeated No. 16 Streamwood (23-4; 17-4) in a wild nine-inning contest 11-9, at Streamwood. The Fighting Saints struck for three runs in the top the seventh to tie the game at 9-9. Junior Johnny Hondlik went deep with a man on pull the Saints to within 9-8. Sophomore Brian Sobieski, with two outs, launched a game-tying bomb to send the game into extra innings.

 

St. Charles East senior LF Henri Derossiers (3-for-5, 2 RBI) struck in the top of the ninth with his third hit of the game, an RBI single. Sobieski plated another Saint run with a sac-fly to give the Fighting Saints the 11-9 lead.

 

The game was a monster pitching matchup between St. Charles East?s University of Kansas-bound LHP Wes Benjamin and Streamwood?s Villanova University-bound LHP Josh Harris. Both Benjamin and Harris were touched up in the U8C offensive explosion. U8C-River leader St. Charles East will open a huge three-game series with cross-town rival St. Charles North (20-8; 14-5) on Tuesday night at 7 at Kane County Stadium, in Geneva. The PBR?s Drake Skleba will be in Geneva for the ?The Battle of St. Charles?Round One.

 

Nonconference

No. 1 Providence (25-3) slipped past Romeoville 6-5.

 

No.8 Sacred Heart-Griffin (23-1) made it 23 in a row with a 4-2 win over Beardstown. Cyclone senior Clint Sestak led the Cyclone attack with a pair of hits and two RBI.

 

No. 9 Stevenson (22-3) slipped past Vernon Hills 5-4 behind University of Illinois recruit junior SS Adam Walton, who had two hits and two RBI to lead the Patriots.

 

No.12 Mundelein (23-4) slipped past Lakes 6-5 in a North Suburban Crossover affair on Friday.

 

No.14 Moline (25-3) had a hangover after its WB-6 championship celebration and fell to IVC 3-1. Illinois Valley Central, the NCIC champs, improve to 19-9 on the season.

 

Burlington Central (17-7) outslugged Huntley 19-13 behind senior Nick Hahn. Hahn had four hits and four RBI to lead the Rockets past the Red Raiders (19-5).
