No. 1 Harrisburg (18-0; 4-0) stopped Porsche Player of the Week Mark Uhles and Benton 8-2 in a Southern Illinois River –River Ohio Division battle in Harrisburg on Monday. Sophomore Ryne Roper improved to 4-0 on the mound with a complete-game gem, striking out a dozen Ranger batters. Junior third baseman Keelin Rasch had four hits, including a double and a triple for the Bulldogs. Uhles and the Rangers will get another shot at No. 1 Harrisburg in Benton, next Friday April 23.

 

Surging Joliet Catholic Academy (4-6) stunned No. 2 Minooka 11-2 in a nonconference battle between the Will County powers in Joliet. Junior Kyle Cunningham, who fired a complete-game victory on the mound Sunday against Mount Carmel, used his bat on Monday. Cunningham doubled and tripled and drove in five Hilltopper runs. Senior John Gerl had a 3-for-4 day with three RBIs. Senior RHP Kendall Paluch picked up his first win. Minooka (12-2) was led by junior Dakota Brown, who had three hits.

 

No. 18 Grayslake Central improved to 10-1 with a 10-inning 2-1 thriller over Lakes on Monday. Rams senior catcher Josh DeAngelis sent the Rams home happy with a game-winning single in the bottom of the tenth. Senior first baseman Angelo Gargano homered for the first Rams run. Lakes (7-4) senior RHP Travis Vanderwall allowed one run and struck out 11 in a no-decision performance for the Eagles.

 

No. 4 Stevenson (7-1) crushed Hersey 15-4 in a nonconference game on Monday. Seniors Patrick Wilson and Teddy Heiser led the Patriots attack. Wilson had two hits and a pair of RBIs and scored three runs. Heiser also had two hits.

 

Junior right-handed pitcher Issac Greenspon (1-0) picked up a win in his first varsity start. Greenspon went 3 2/3 innings and scattered five hits and two earned runs. Greenspon fanned five Huskies hitters. Hersey (7-2) was led by Jake Knauss, who had a pair of hits and three RBIs.

Hickman fired a complete game and fanned 14 as the Wolverines rolled 8-4. Freshman Marshawn Taylor continued his torrid hitting with two hits, including  a two-run jack for the Wolverines. Freshman Cory Ray had a double and a triple in four at bats and scored a pair of runs. The Wolverine senior Charles Aldridge was 2-for-4 with a pair of RBIs. Aldridge is the lone senior on the young Wolverine squad.

 

Aurora Christian (5-3; 1-1) evened up their Suburban Christian record with an 8-1 win over Aurora Central Catholic on Monday. Eagle Brent Minta (2-1) picked up the win on the mound for the Eagles. Minta allowed one run in five innings and fanned 8 Charger hitters. Minta helped himself with a pair of hits and an RBI. Mitch Holtz hit a two-run bomb and Josh Haugen drove home three Eagle runs. Caleb Apkar fired two hitless innings in relief of Minta and struck out two.

 

Lincoln-Way West (6-4) Warrior pitcher Jim McHale fired a complete-game masterpiece at Bolingbrook on Monday. In the Southwest Suburban crossover, McHale struck out 14 Raider batters in leading the Warriors to a thrilling 3-2 win. Junior Cody Vogler continued his torrid assault on the baseball this spring with another home run. Luke Andretti chipped with a 1-for-3 game with a pair of RBIs.

 

Bartonville Limestone rolled past Morton 9-4 in a Mid-Illini conference battle on Monday. Matt Johnson and Connor Webster each drove in a pair of runs for the Rockets. Nick Hermann had a pair of hits and is hitting a robust .425 this season for Limestone.

 

Rockton Hononegah’s Valpo-bound senior Ryan Scarpetta (3-1) fired a one-hit shutout to lead the Indians to a 3-0 NIC-10 opening victory over Machesney Park Harlem (8-3; 0-1). Scarpetta struck out nine. In his four starts in 2010, the hard-throwing right-hander has fanned 50.The Indians improve to 6-3 overall and 1-0 in NIC-10 play.

 

Lyons Township’s Zach Remijas fired a three-hit shutout and struck out 9 as the Lions swept their three game series with Glenbard West, 6-0, on Monday. Spencer Mahoney drove home two big runs for the resurgent Lions (8-3; 5-0). With Oak Parks’ 10-9 win over York, the Lions open up a two game lead in the West Suburban Conference Silver standings over Oak Park (10-2; 3-2) and York (7-6;3-2). Hinsdale Central (4-6-1; 1-1) sits in fourth place. Oak Park will be in Western Springs on Saturday for a big WSC Silver twin-bill.

 

Sandburg’s (6-4) Evansville-bound Ryan Billo drove in the game winner as the Eagles edged Lincoln-Way North 6-5 in a Southwest Suburban crossover game on Monday. Junior Nick DeWolf was 4-for-4 for the Eagles with an RBI and senior Vince Kmiec hit a two-run homer.

 

The two-time defending Class 2A champs from Stanford Olympia (9-2) crushed Delavan 16-3 behind the big bat of senior third baseman Matt Glenn. The hard-hitting senior went 4-for-4 with a homer and four RBIs to lead the Spartans. Senior shortstop Spencer Pratt homered and drove in a pair. Talented junior Chase Hainline had three doubles. On Wednesday at 4:30, the No. 8 ranked Grey Ghosts of IVC (13-0) invade Stanford for the Prep Baseball Report Game of the Day. Sean Duncan will make the trip to McLean County. Stanford Olympia defeated IVC in the 2008 Class 2A championship game.

 

Providence (9-4; 1-0) junior right-handed pitcher Nick Gould fired a five-inning no-hitter while striking out 12 and junior Dom Olszta had three hits and a pair of RBIs as the Celtics crushed Hales 10-0 in their Catholic League opener on Monday.

 

Brother Rice (9-4; 1-0) sophomore Mike Yacko fired a no-hitter at Bishop McNamara (0-8-1; 0-1) as the Crusaders won their Catholic League opener in Kankakee 8-1.

 

No.5 Naperville Central (9-1; 1-0) crushed West Aurora 12-0 in five innings in the Redhawks Du Page Valley Conference opener. Junior LHP Dan Ludwig threw a one-hitter to improve to 2-0 on the season. Kansas State-bound first baseman Shane Conlon and senior right fielder Bobby Czarnowski each had two hits and two RBIs. Senior Mason Hallett had a perfect 3-for-3 day with an RBI.

 

Normal West (7-5) defeated Springfield Lanphier 9-4 in a nonconference game. Junior Kyle Vaughn was 3-for-3 with a pair of RBIs to lead the surging Wildcats. Senior Blake Cullen improved to 1-1 on the mound West.

 

St. Viator (5-3) senior right-hander Julian Sipiora outdueled New Trier’s junior lefty Charlie Tilson as the Lions edged the Trevians 3-2 on Monday. Sipiora improved to 2-0 with a complete-game effort. Lion junior catcher Cory Kay had a double and a pair of RBIs. New Trier falls to 2-5 on the season.

 

Sandwich (7-5; 2-0) received a four-hit shutout from Nick Deutsch and a home run from Matt Morse to get past Lisle 3-0, in an Interstate 8 North contest in Lisle on Monday. Lisle falls to 9-4 overall and 1-1 in the I-8 North.

 

No.14 Naperville North (8-1; 1-0) received home runs from senior first baseman Andrew Arenson and senior Jack Krecji, as the Huskies won their Du Page Valley opener over Glenbard North 8-3. Oakton Community College-recruit Kyle Klosak improves to 2-1 on the mound with the win.

 

Prospect (6-3) stunned No. 11 Warren 7-4 in a nonconferernce game on Monday. Senior Peter Bonahoom continued his hot hitting with a pair of RBIs for the Knights. Junior Ryan Kennedy led the Blue Devils with a double and three RBIs. Sophomore RHP Pat Kenny suffered his first loss of the season.

 

Riverside-Brookfield (3-7-1) handed No.16 Nazareth Academy (9-1-1) its first loss of the season, 14-7, in a nonconference game on Monday. Seniors Billy VandeMerkt, Matt Scott and junior Tyler Radek led the Bulldog attack with three hits each. Senior Matt Kenahan picked up the win on the mound for R-B.

 

Homewood-Flossmoor (9-1) won its eight consecutive victory, crushing Stagg 12-6 in a Southwest Suburban crossover on Monday. Seniors Aaron Hauge, Matt Morse and sophomore Steve Roman all went deep for the surging Vikings.
