No. 3 Mt. Carmel (7-1) suffered its first defeat of the season, losing 5-2 to surprising Richards on Monday. Bulldog Jordan Julian (1-0) allowed two runs and four hits in five innings on the mound to pick up the win. Joe Lyons slammed the door on the Caravan over the last two innings to pick up the save. Richards improves to 4-2 on the campaign.

No. 4 Nazareth Academy (9-1) smashed St. Ignatius 11-0 in five innings behind a five-inning, two-hit shutout by Roadrunner 6-foot-4 junior LHP Dominic Purpura (3-0).
University of Buffalo recruit C Justin Gonzales went deep twice for the Roadrunners and drove home four runs. University of Dayton-bound 1B A.J. Ryan had a 2-for-2 day with three RBI. Speedy leadoff man, Lewis University recruit Kane Lombardo chipped in with a pair of hits.

Wheaton North defeated No. 10 Downers Grove South 6-1 in a nonconference game. Junior Jake Schieber led the hit parade, which included a home run, for the Falcons, while RHP Eric Scandora pitched a complete game.

No. 14 Simeon (7-1; 1-0) opened up Jackie Robinson South play with a 12-0 whitewash of Kenwood. Freshman Darius Day improved to 2-0 on the mound with nine strikeouts in his shutout performance. Juniors Blake Hickman and Shane Brown led the Wolverine attack. Hickman had a perfect 3-for-3 day with a triple and four ribbies. Brown had a pair of hits and two RBI.

No. 15 Streamwood (6-0) roughed up Maine East 8-4, behind a fine performance on the mound from junior RHP Bobby Post (1-0). Post fanned six in his 4 1/3-inning performance, allowing a lone run and two hits. Sabre senior Alex Morrow homered and had two RBI. Villanova-bound Josh Harris blasted a solo shot and junior Pat Manning chipped in with a pair of hits, including a triple and drove in a Sabre run.

No. 22 De La Salle (6-0) exploded for four runs in the bottom of the ninth to stun Marist 8-4. Junior Anthony Shimkus hit a walkoff grand slam and had two hits to lead the Meteors. Sophomore Roe Coleman also homered for De La Salle.

East Peoria (4-4; 1-0) hammered No. 24 Washington 12-2 behind Robbie Rogers, who blasted a pair of homers and drove in five. Alex Gutuirrez  hit a solo shot for EP. Washington falls to 7-2 and 0-1 in the Mid-Illini.

No. 25 Troy-Triad improved to 7-0 with a 13-3 pasting of Belleville Althoff in five innings. The young and talented Knights were led by a trio of juniors. Ty Lewis had a perfect 4-for-4 day with an RBI. Troy Wiesmeyer drove home three Knight runs with his three hits. Andrew Range improved to 2-0 on the mound with his four-inning, one run allowed performance. Sophomore Cody Massey chipped in with a 2-for-2 day with his first home run of 2011. Thursday the Knights will host No. 2 Chatham Glenwood (7-0) at 4:15.

Waterloo (7-0) blasted Freeburg 10-0 in five innings. Middle Tennessee State University-bound Garrett Schlecht homered and drove in six Bulldog runs. The home run was the second for the future Blue Raider. Schlecht has 14 RBI for 2011. Junior Cole Schaefer (1-0) fired a two-hit shutout with seven Ks for the undefeated Bulldogs.

Sandburg (3-1) defeated district-rival Stagg 12-5 in a Southwest Suburban crossover on Monday. Eagle RHP Nick Bates (2-0) was the story. After giving up five runs to Stagg (2-3) in the first inning, Bates slammed the door on the Chargers the rest of the way. Bates drove home five Eagle runs, three on a homer with two mates aboard, as the Eagles swept both district-rivals, Stagg and Andrew in the past week.

Notre Dame rallied for four runs in the seventh to defeat No. 37 New Trier 8-7. Senior C Alex Pope tied the affair at 7 with a clutch two-run single off of New Trier?s University of Illinois-bound RHP Charlie Tilson (1-1). Tilson uncorked a wild pitch that allowed the Dons to score the game-winner.

Notre Dame (2-5) just returned from its spring trip to California, where the Dons lost three heart-breaking games against three of California?s best, Santa Clara Wilcox (9-3) edged the Dons 3-2. The Dons fell 7-4 to powerhouse Archbishop Mitty of San  Jose (5-1) and then fell 6-5 to Father Serra Prep of San Mateo (4-2).

No. 38 Naperville Central (4-2) blanked Joliet Catholic Academy 5-0 at Benedictine University in Lisle, Monday night.

Burlington Central (5-2) won a Big Northern crossover affair 10-5 over Byron. Senior RHP Joey Lange (2-0) struck out ten in his six innings of work. Senior LF Luke Fleming drove home a pair of Rocket runs.

Evanston (5-1) defeated St. Francis de Sales of Louisville, Kentucky 11-1 as Wildkit junior LHP Jordan Crawford improved to 3-0 with a complete-game victory. ?Kit Trevor Forde had two hits and two RBI to lead Evanston as the Wildkits opened their Kentucky trip in style.

Von Steuben (8-0; 1-0) made it eight consecutive wins, as the Panthers routed defending-Jackie Robinson North champ Mather 8-0 in a JRN conference-opener for both teams. Panther Alex Lugo had three hits and drove home a pair of Panther runs.
Jake Pagan chipped in with two hits, including a double and an RBI.
