Prep Baseball continues leveraging technology to benefit amateur players in a new partnership with S2 Cognition, the leader in evaluating cognitive skills that impact athletic performance.

S2 Cognition will be the Official Cognitive Testing Partner of Prep Baseball in a comprehensive partnership announced today. As part of the partnership, S2 Cognition will administer evaluations at select Prep Baseball showcases and tournaments, including the Future Games.

"We're excited to be part of the evolution and development of cognitive testing as a component of player development," Prep Baseball President Sean Duncan said. "We are continually looking for ways to maintain our leadership in using technology to evaluate performance, and that includes establishing partnerships with category leaders. When it comes to cognitive testing and evaluation, S2 is clearly out front."

S2 Cognition will also sponsor Prep Baseball's Draft HQ coverage of the major league draft as part of an overall marketing program to emphasize the company's growing focus on baseball, particularly at the youth level. S2 has been working with Major League Baseball teams and prominent Division I collegiate baseball programs for many years, and those teams rely on the data gathered by way of the S2 Evaluation as part of their scouting and player development efforts.

Commenting on the announcement, S2’s CEO, Vaden Landers, said: “Young athletes spend hours perfecting their physical skills but often overlook an important aspect of their game – the ability to make split-second decisions in high-pressure moments. The new ‘edge’ in sports is identifying the high-speed processing, decision-making and quick reaction skills of athletes who compete at all levels.” Landers added, “We are excited to partner with Prep Baseball to bring awareness and education about the importance of cognition in human performance. This partnership will allow these young athletes broader access to state-of-the-art tools that have, up to this point, only been available to top level college programs and MLB teams.”

S2 Cognition uses cutting edge technology to quantify athletes’ split-second processing and game speed reactions. A unique evaluation is designed for each sport because every sport puts different demands on how athletes process, think, and react during the game. In baseball, teams first use the S2 results to better understand the reasons a hitter may excel or struggle with certain skills, such as pitch recognition, bat-to-ball contact, or chasing pitches out of the strike zone, and then applies S2’s science-guided drill programs to help hitters target these areas and build faster, more accurate decisions in the batter’s box.

Athletes who take the S2 Eval get a digital S2 Locker where they are able to access their report and an extensive library of educational videos, training concepts, and drill programs that target specific cognitive skills.
