No. 6 Mundelein (9-0; 1-0)) defeated Lake Zurich 9-1 in a North Suburban Lake matchup. Ben Mahar (4-0) earned the win, throwing a complete game. The Valparaiso recruit handcuffed Lake Zurich (2-3; 0-1) to one run behind a fastball that sat at 86 mph and topped at 88.

Luis Carrasco hit a two-run home run in the first inning to jump start the Mustangs. Carrasco also doubled twice and had 3 RBI on the day. Nik Gastfield added a solo home run in the third and Chris Langley added a two-run home run in the sixth.

Lake Zurich junior right-hander Michael Lutz took the loss before being relieved by senior Ben Gullo. Lutz sat at 84-85 mph and topped at 86 mph with his fastball. Gullo sat at 87 mph and topped at 89 mph. There were not many bright spots for the Lake Zurich offense, but Parker Asmann singled and doubled twice, bringing in the only Lake Zurich run of the day.

The PBR?s Sean Duncan will be in Mundelein on Wednesday for the re-match as part of the PBR Game of the Day.

No. 13 Stevenson (4-0; 1-0) defeated Libertyville 4-1 behind Stetson recruit RHP Isaac Greenspon. Greenspon (2-0) lost his no-hit bid with two out in the seventh and settled for a sterling one-hitter with 11 strikeouts. The two rivals will meet in Libertyville (4-2; 0-1) on Wednesday and the PBR?s Drake Skleba will be there as there.

Warren (5-3; 1-0) defeated Zion Benton 5-3 behind Dayton recruit 3B Kevin Colburn. Colburn homered and had two hits and two RBI for the Blue Devils. Junior RHP Pat Kenney improved to 2-0 on the season with a fine five-inning performance allowing only one earned run. Kenney tripled and Caleb Haley singled home a pair of runs for Warren.

The game wasn?t played at Gately Stadium but the score of the game sure sounds like it was, as No. 3 Mount Carmel (8-1)  put a 28-0 thumping in five inning on Whitney Young. It wasn?t Mt. Carmel football coach Frank Lenti on the sideline, but Caravan head coach Brian Hurry, who watched sophomore catcher Tom Hayes hit for the cycle. Slugging junior 1B Sam Kint went 4-for-5 with a two-run bomb and drove in five Caravan runs.

In Central State 8 action, Springfield Sacred Heart-Griffin (6-1; 3-0) defeated Rochester 11-5 as the Cyclones exploded for six runs, on only two hits, in the top of the seventh. Senior Jarrod Sergent  hammered a three-run homer to tie the game at 4. Sergent tied the game at 5 with an RBI single to lead the Cyclones to their sixth straight victory.

No. 2 Chatham Glenwood (8-0; 3-0) defeated Southeast 6-2 behind Louisiana Tech-bound RHP Phil Maton. Maton improved to 4-0 on the mound with a nine-strikeout complete-game performance. Maton also went deep for the Titans.

In Cornbelt action, Normal U-High  (5-3; 2-0) pounded defending Corn Belt champion Stanford Olympia 16-1 in five innings. The Pioneers were led by juniors Jared Hendren and Andy Cochran. Each blasted two-run homers and Hendren had three hits and three RBI to lead the U-High attack. Senior Andrew Arthur picked up the win on the mound for the Pioneers. Olympia falls to 2-9 and 0-2 in Cornbelt action.

In Fox Valley crossover action, Red Raider senior RHP Jake Staab improved to 2-0
as Huntley (5-1; 1-0) slipped past Grayslake North 2-1 in eight innings. Staab fired a four-hitter striking out 10. Red Raider Brody Burkhart, continued his hot-hitting with a double and a triple and scored two runs including the game-winner in the eighth.

Cary-Grove (4-3; 1-0) blasted Johnsburg 11-1 in five innings behind Heartland Community College-bound RHP John Spoelstra (2-0). Spoelstra threw a complete-game five-hitter with five strikouts. University of Illinois-Springfield recruit Tyler Lau homered and drove in a pair for CG. Ohio State-bound Matt Panek chipped in with a pair of RBI.

In NCIC action, No. 20 IVC (6-1;1-0) defeated new NCIC member Peru-St. Bede 9-6. Grey Ghost senior LHP Brock Adcock (2-0) struck out 11 for IVC.

In North Suburban Prairie action, Vernon Hills (6-1;1-0) crushed Antioch 16-2 in five innings. Cougar Tyler Feece improved to 3-0 on the mound for VH. Cougar Chris Marras continued his torrid pace, with a 4-for-5 afternoon with with five RBI.

In S. Illinois River-River-Ohio action, Benton (10-2; 1-0) defeated West Frankfort 3-1 behind junior RHP Trey Garrett (3-0). Garrett allowed three hits and struck out eight on the day for the Rangers.

In a  Southwestern Conference early-season showdown No. 8 O? Fallon (9-1; 2-0)
blasted Edwardsville 14-5. Panther Cody Seeburger hit his fourth and fifth home runs of the season and drove in five runs. O? Fallon also got dingers from Justin Busekrus, his third, and the first homer of 2011 for Jacob Jarvis.

In South Suburban Blue action, Bremen (9-2; 2-0) swept its two-game series with Hillcrest, blasting the Hawks 13-4. Braves junior SS Eric West and sophomore Dan Stephens, each had a pair of hits and three RBI. Braves co-captain senior Joe Lyons improved to 2-1 with a complete-game performance.

Tinley Park (9-2; 2-0) kept pace with Bremen and Oak Forest as the Titans crushed TF North 10-0 in five innings. Titan Dylan Ostermann (2-0) fired a shutout and Titan Max Lapthorne had two hits and three RBI to lead the Titan attack.

In Suburban Christian Blue action on Tuesday, defending Blue champion Marmion (6-3; 3-0) swept its series with Montini 3-0 behind junior C Kyle Kozak. For the second consecutive day, Kozak went deep with a pair of mates on board to lead the Cadets to victory. 6-foot-4 210 pound senior Tyler Friel (2-1) handcuffed the Broncos, firing a two-hit shutout with eight strikeouts.

Chicago Christian (9-2; 3-0) defeated St. Francis 4-1 behind junior RHP Trent Overzet (3-0),  who allowed a run in his five-inning stint. Overzet helped himself with an RBI triple. Knight senior LF Brian Deckinga drove home two runs as the Knights kept pace with Marmion.

In Suburban Prairie action, No. 5 Plainfield North (6-0; 1-0), routed Oswego 20-3
behind junior DH Joey Cresta, who launched a pair of homers and drove in five Tiger runs. Senior 3B Brian Evak had four RBI on a perfect 2-for-2 afternoon. Kyle Palandech homered and drove home three and senior lead-off man Evan Whaley chipped in with three ribbies and two hits.The beneficiary of the Tiger onslaught was senior RHP Sean Renzi, who improved to 2-0 on the mound. Renzi fanned 10 in his complete-game performance.

Minooka (6-3; 1-0) won its Suburban Prairie opener defeating Plainfield East 7-0 behind junior LHP Josh Jiminez. Jiminez improves to 3-1 with a complete-game whitewash and senior Dakota Brown and Sean Macko each drove home a pair of Indian runs.

In Upstate 8 crossover action, No. 16 Streamwood (6-0; 1-0) continued to roll, slipping past Lake Park 4-3. Villanova-bound LHP Josh Harris (2-0) struck out 12 Lancers in his complete-game three hitter, allowing only one earned run. Hot-hitting junior Alex Morrow continued to lead the Sabre attack with a perfect two-for-two day with a homer and two RBI. Fellow-junior 2B Brent Kiesel scored the game-winner in the seventh on a Lancer miscue.

St. Charles East (5-3; 1-0) downed No. 11 Neuqua Valley 4-1 behind University of Kansas-bound LHP Wes Benjamin (1-0). The future Jayhawk struck out 8 in his 5 ? innings of work. Fighting Saint junior RHP Johnny Hondlik shut down the Wildcats to pick up his third save of 2011. Neuqua Valley falls to 5-1 overall and 0-1 in the Valley Division.

Elgin Larkin (6-2; 1-0) blasted South Elgin, 11-1 in six innings. Senior RHP Miguel Villafane improved to 2-0 on the mound for the Royals with a complete game six-hitter, the run he allowed was unearned. Villafane helped himself at the plate with a homer and drove in four Royal runs. Royal senior 1B Victor Saldana went back-to-back with Villafane in the fifth. Senior Trevor Whitehead, had a pair of doubles among his three hits and had an RBI. South Elgin (5-1; 0-1) suffers its first defeat of 2011.

St. Charles North (5-3; 1-0) blasted East Aurora 18-2 in five innings. Senior Andrew Elliott had a perfect 3-for-3 day with two RBI. North Star senior 1B John Munyon had two hits and two RBI.

Geneva (3-1; 1-0) overcame a 6-2 deficit and shocked Waubonsie Valley 8-6. Viking senior Chris Hipchen, who went deep a school record 13 times for the Vikings in 2010, hammered a grand-slam bomb to tie the game at 6, in the bottom of the seventh. After a walk, Viking Matt Williams sent the Viking fans into delirium when he crushed a walk-off two-run bomb and Geneva had an astounding Upstate 8 crossover win.

No. 15 Teutopolis (6-0) defeated Decatur St. Teresa 6-1 behind a sensational performance from John A. Logan College recruit Derek Thompson (3-0). Thompson,who?s fastball was lighting up the MLB scouts radar guns in attendance, struck out 11 in his complete-game gem.

Wooden Shoes senior 3B Garrett Overbeck hit a three-run homer and senior 2B Mark
Niebrugge followed with a solo shot of his own to give Thompson all the runs he would need.

Burlington Central (6-2) defeated Yorkville 3-1 behind junior RHP Zach Ranney (1-1), who went the distance allowing three hits and striking out seven. Junior CF Ray Hunnicutt led the Rocket attack with two hits.

Westminster Christian (3-4) defeated Rockford East 5-1 on Tuesday as the Warriors ambidextrous Ryan Perez (1-1) fired a no-hitter at the E-Rabs, striking out 15. The run he allowed was unearned. Junior 3B Kevin Elder and senior 1B Frank Oliver drove in Warrior runs.

Marist (2-7) proved last year?s Class 4A regional-opener stunner of No. 9 St. Laurence (7-2) wasn?t a fluke as the Redhawks did it to the Vikings again. Led by Redhawk Ron Meyers two hits, Marist stunned St. Laurence 5-3 in a non-conference affair in Mt. Greenwood on Wednesday.

Galesburg (9-2) won for the sixth consecutive time, rallying past Limestone 7-4. The Streaks struck for four runs in the bottom of the sixth, to win for their third straight time in their last at-bats. Streak Andrew Streck singled home the lead run after Brock Bush had tied it at 6. Luke Ryan gave the Streaks a huge insurance run with his run-scoring single.

Lockport (5-2) defeated Lincoln-Way West 13-8 in a Southwest Suburban crossover action. The Porters were led by St. Joseph College recruit 2b Matt Skrzypiec who hammered a three-run homer and drove in three Porter Runs. Junior Austin Mastella tripled with the bases loaded for LP. Sophomore Ted Snidanko had two hits and doubled a Porter run home. Senior John Kosmowski had a perfect 3-for-3 day with a ribbie for Lockport.
