Lyons Township stuns No. 3 Sandburg … The giant-killers at Lyons Township did it again on Wednesday. Led by Brian Rodemoyer and Mark Koziol, the Lions knocked off No. 3 Sandburg 6-2. Rodomeyer launched a monster three-run homer in the first inning, his fourth dinger in ’10, to get the Lionfest started. Koziol, who had two hits, joined the festivities with a booming two-run double. Connor Cuff and Sam Ramijas handcuffed the hard-hitting Eagles. The Lions improve to 3-2 on the year and will face Shane Conlon and the No.1 ranked Naperville Central Redhawks (3-0) in Naperville today at 4:30.

 

No.6 Harrisburg won a 17-13 slugfest with Zion Benton on Wednesday. Bulldog senior Reid Roper homered and tripled and drove home three runs. Brother Ryne had a pair of RBIs and junior 3B Keelin Rasch went deep for the Bulldogs. Rasch also doubled and had three RBIs. With the win Harrisburg improves to 9-0.

 

No. 9 IVC improved to 6-0 behind a one-hit shutout by senior LHP Cody Kenzel.

Kenzel struck out seven as the Ghosts beat Dunlap 8-0. Junior Brock Adcock (2-for-3 RBI) and Trevor Black, who added a pair of hits and ribbies, led the offensive attack for the Grey Ghosts.

 

Deerfield senior third baseman Zach Pearlstein went 4-for-4 with a homer and three RBIs to lead the 2-3 Warriors past Von Steuben 19-13. Josh Nevers also homered and had 4 RBIs, as the Warriors hammered seven home runs in the game.

 

Highland Park’s sophomore catcher Jason Goldstein went 4-for-5 with a pair of doubles and three RBIs in leading the Giants past Normal West 13-5. Senior OF Josh Lipnick added three hits, including a double, and drove home three for 4-0 Highland Park. Junior OF Frank Maione had a 4 RBI day against Normal West (2-4).

 

Lake Forest senior Connor Motvic hammered a three-run bomb and drove home four, as the 3-0 Scouts continued their downstate onslaught, defeating Charleston 15-13. Senior Marc Corigliano also homered and drove in three runs for the Scouts.

 

Lake Park senior Garrett Gajewski went 4-for-4 and had 4 RBIs in leading the 2-0 Lancers to an 11-1 romp over Elk Grove. Evansville-bound senior Peter Spear struck out five in picking up his first victory on the mound for the 2-0 Lancers.

 

No.13 Oak Park swept Glenbrook South 3-2 & 14-4 to improve to 6-0. Senior Andrew Godbold had the game-winner in Game One for the Huskies. Junior Will Polley hammered a pair of HRs, including a grand slam and drove in five runs for the Huskies. Senior John Frueh homered and drove home five as well in the nightcap. Sophomore C Jack Picchiotti went deep as well for the Huskies.

 

Libertyville (4-2) closed out their trip in the desert on the upside with a 15-6 pounding of Taylorville, Utah. Senior Brad Martin led the assault on the Utahtonians. Martin homered and drove home five runs to lead the Wildcats. Senior RHP Tyler Schweigert (2-0) picked up the win for the ‘Cats. The ‘Cat’s fell to Hamilton and Chaparal Arizona to open their Spring Trip in Phoenix.

 

Bartonville Limestone (6-1) continued its hot hitting and swept Addison Trail 10-4 & 10-9 in Bartonville. Sophomore Robbie Gossmeyer continued his assault on the baseball, going 4-for-6 with three RBIs in the sweep. Nick Herman drove in four runs and senior Connor Webster hit his second homer of the week for the Rockets.

 

La Salle-Peru’s senior RHP David Suarez (2-0) fired a complete game and fanned nine in leading the Cavaliers to an 8-2 win over Rock island Alleman. Suarez drove home the first Cav run with an RBI single. Kyle Pisano went 4-for-4 with 3 RBIs to lead the L-P (2-3) attack.

 

Phillips (4-3) was led by Jarvis Robinson in a 10-9 slugfest win over Hyde Park. Robinson went 4-for 4 with a pair of homers and drove in four to carry the Wildcats past Hyde Park.

 

Fremd (2-3) received a five-hit shutout from senior LHP Clint Terry (1-2) as the Vikings blanked St. Charles East 9-0. Terrry struck out six. Senior Kevin Ciardiello drove home three runs for the Vikings. St. Charles East suffers its first defeat after four consecutive wins to open up the season.

 

No.16 Brother Rice sophomore Garrett O’Neill had the game-winner as the Crusaders slipped past Oak Lawn 3-2. O’Neill singled home sophomore Ryan Koziol and sent the Crusader contingent home happy in Mt. Greenwood. 6-foot-6 senior RHP Brian Baldwin improved to 2-0 on the mound. Sophomore Brian McQuillan smashed a home run for the 5-1 Crusaders.

 

No. 31 Carmel unloaded on Prairie Ridge 15-3. Seniors Paul Poirier, Jimmy Spagna and Alex May all homered for the Corsairs. Carmel improves to 2-2 on the season. Prairie Ridge falls to 4-2.

 

No. 26 Minooka’s senior Dakota Brown had six RBIs to lead the 5-1 Indians to an 11-6 victory over Neuqua Valley. Brown tripled and homered and had three hits. Texas University-bound Mike Foltynewicz hammered his fourth homer of the year and third in two games. The future Longhorn had three hits. Foltynewicz will face No. 24 Joliet Catholic Academy (2-0) in today’s WJOL Area Invite Qt. Final today at JCA at 4:30.The PBR will be there!

 

Plainfield North junior Sean Renzi and senior Scott Vachon (St. Xavier) each homered, leading the 5-1 Tigers to a 6-2 win over Naperville North (3-1). For Vachon, it was his second dinger in two games. Junior Brian Evak improved to 2-0 on the mound for the Tigers.

 

No. 22 Lakes squeezed by Highland 2-1 as the Eagles received stellar pitching performances from 6-foot-4 junior RHP Nick Hibbing and junior Paul Kukulka. Hibbing threw four shutout innings and Kukulka picked up the save for the Eagles. Senior Travis Vanderwall doubled home the first Eagle run.

 

Herscher’s Alex Petkunas hit a grand slam in leading the Tigers to a 26-4 blowout of Pontiac.The 5-foot-8 senior OF drove in seven runs for the 4-3 Tigers.

 

Burlington Central (6-1) bounced back from their first loss at Centralia on Tuesday and defeated Highland 9-2. Junior Sam Klein picked up the win on the mound for the Rockets to improve to 3-0. Porsche Player of the Week Austin Jarvis had a 2-for-3 day for Burlington Central.

 

No. 19 St. Charles North (4-0) defeated Marion 9-4, beating Marion ace Bryan Waldrop. Sophomore John Brodner hammered a two-run shot for the North Stars. University of Nebraska recruit Ryan Richardson went 3-for-4. Junior John Munyon picked up the win on the mound for the North Stars. St. Charles North has hammered Grayslake Lake North, No.10 Warren and Vernon Hills during their highly-productive southern Illinois trip. They will meet No.12 New Trier at noon today.

 

Marian Catholic sophomore Brent Lilek went 3-for-3 and drove home six runs as the Spartans crushed Crete-Monee 19-5.Senior Dan Schmidtke added four RBIs for the 3-2 Spartans.
